Currently we live in Swindon in Wiltshire (god help us) but have been talking about moving for a couple of months because my DH commutes to London every day and the travelling is getting too much for him. I have some misgivings as we were going to move to Surrey before, sold the house, got to within 2 weeks of exchange on another house but then at the last minute I decided I couldn't go through with it because I was settled here and had a fear of being on my own with a then two-year-old while DH would be going to the same job, with the same people, .. etc and only his address would change while I'd be giving up everything. Anyway we backed out on the house, well sold that one and bought a bigger one, but 15 months on DH has changed his job and is having to work longer hours and it's getting too much for him. I feel that I'm in a different position now as DS is now 3 and isn't as reliant on me as he's at preschool plus I've started back at college now and most of the friends I had here the last time have moved away anyoay so I feel more confident about potentially moving now, but will definitely do it right - the last place we were going to move to wasn't right anyway in hindsight so probably a good thing we didn't move anyway.

DH likes the look of Essex, Chelmsford or somewhere thereabouts as he has a couple of friends who live there. So, any mums in that area? where would you recommend is a good place to/not to move to?

Chelmsford is lovely....most of the areas are nice and the town centre has everything you could need, plus lots of nice bars, restaurants in the centre for long lunches outside in the summer. We live outside of chelmsford and looked to move closer but what we were after was out of our price range!! The commute into london takes about 35mins into Liverpool street and is generally a good service - any thing else you need to know???
