I've just woken up and tried to catch up with the Dear thread on don't put your kids' ages or pictures on the interweb, and of course where are you from, Dear? And it's gone

DId it kick off?

No! I was about to start looking for it! I have been in Mumsnet almost all day and the moment I take off the thing disapears!

soapbox · 25/02/2006 01:10

Gone - but a remnant of it remains - see if you can find it

suzywong · 25/02/2006 01:11

oh that's not fair soapy
why did it go, and did we find out what fabulous speech patterns she was using?

I think the consensus in the end was that it may have been someone who had some kind of special needs. Possibly someone with SN who had been warned of the dangers of posting her name and pictures on the web??? Who knows really!

But because it contained a lot of pretty chippy comments, I think the decision was taken to delete it!

Now I am not giving into the challenge - the links to the remnants are still in active convos!!!!

suzywong · 25/02/2006 01:19

ooo you're firm soapbox, firm but fair

I only read the beginning of it, didn't realised it had turned bad in that sense.

prosecutingcounsel · 25/02/2006 07:02

I thought it was awful, it was like being witness to a playground bullying session with everyone standing round taunting her.

shame on the posters

getbakainyourjimjams · 25/02/2006 08:20

It was horrible. I've been on here 3 or 4 year I think, and for the first time ever I asked mumsnet to delete a thread. It was horrible and utterly depressing.

getbakainyourjimjams · 25/02/2006 08:20

year? years!

Enid · 25/02/2006 08:43

agree with gbiyjj

I thought it was exceptionally cruel and it made me think seriously about some of the more cutting postings I make

Blandmum · 25/02/2006 08:52

Jimjams...agree

BTW have you 'only' been posting for 3-4 years? When I arrived (at about the same time) you already seemed to be an 'old hand' and I was quite in awe of you

AliceWonderland · 25/02/2006 08:59

I agree it it was right to delete it too suzy you missed this Narnia

suzywong · 25/02/2006 09:07

thanks

thanks for the link
so did the Dear thread get nasty then? I was genuinely interested from a lanuguage POV about her mother tongue. Sorry if that was not on.

OP posts:
AliceWonderland · 25/02/2006 09:10

just confusion and ignorance really, generally best forgotten

getbakainyourjimjams · 25/02/2006 10:24

Suzy the thread started in a confusing way,and I think at the bginning a number of people were genuinely interested, but as it evolved it became apparent that it was likely that her mother tongue was English. People like to think they're oh so tolerant of all sorts of difference, but in reality.......

Think so MB- I thought you were an old timer when I joined! I made one post when ds1 was a baby, but didn't start posting regularly until sometime after his dx (which was in summer 2002)

Mercy · 25/02/2006 11:02

Totally agree jimjams, and glad that you and Marina did the right thing.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 25/02/2006 11:11

I thought it was mn at its absolute worst. It was horrible. dear had posted something to me in the past on a seperate thread so I put a note for her on that in the hope that she might see it, as I was not going to go near that other thread. I have no idea who dear is or what her background is but imho far better to ignore a troll than to risk really offending and upsetting someone who has difficulties of some sort.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 25/02/2006 11:13

glad I'm not alone in thinking it was one of - if not the worst I've seen over 2-odd years.

this sounds awful, what on earth happened?

Mum2OneAndOneMore · 25/02/2006 11:23

I only read the beginning of it & did not want to get involved, i read people taking the piss out of the way she was spelling! I hope it did not get to nasty

I am not the best person at spelling & people probably read what i write & think i am stu[id but i am not bothered it will not stop me from posting on Mn, there are all sorts in this world & we are not all good at everything.

7up · 25/02/2006 12:16

it was very very nasty and obvious it wasnt a troll, she did seem genuinely confused about the fact that paedos could get to our kids through the website and basically got really slagged off for it and had the piss taken too badly.not very nice

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 25/02/2006 12:24

tiredemma - basically dear posted suggesting that we shouldn't post details about our kids. her language is pretty poor (though understandable) and it would seem she either has English as her second language or possibly has a lerning difficulty of some kind or she may have been a troll having a laugh. People assumed the latter (or just didn't care if it was either of the other two) and really took the piss, in a very mumsnetty type way, I'm afraid to say.

misdee · 25/02/2006 12:25

i havw searched her name, and it is quiite upsetting that the thread turned quite nasty i am to say o posted, but iwas confused by what she meant tbh.
