We may be going to pick up a nearly new leather sofa tomorrow........... But......................
We have 2 dogs and 2 cats, will they wreck it???

The dogs are bouncy and jump around loads and I am worried they will tear or pierce the leather?

What do I do?????

possibly!

they may scratch it.

my friends mum got a v.expensive leather sofa from Italy and ended up having to cover it with old blankets! lol

I can cope with scratches but worried they may tear it?

leather is quite tough, I should think it will be ok. I've never had dogs and sofas but I've had both seperately. It will help if you keep the leather well conditioned so it doesnt get brittle. Ikea do a cheap set of cleaner and conditioner.

would think it would be ok for tears - scratches make it look lived in but really mine doesn't even show dd's tooth marks from when she chewed on everything

The lady we are buying from has the leather care kit that came with it

I can just tell I will be standing over the sofa on tender hooks when the kids or dogs get boistrous (sp!)

we have a dog and 2 cats and a leather suite and -sorry--decide how important your suite is to your pets cos dog will probably make a few paw prints, cats will destroy!!! still prefer them to the suite at the end of the day though!!!

magnolia1 · 24/02/2006 20:21

lol.... the cats don't come in lounge a lot so thats ok and pawprints I can cope with

This is why we are getting one nearly new instead of paying hundreds for brand new.

ive got 3 cats and a maniac jack russell and leather suite that my parents gave me, they had 5 cats and 3 dogs and it hasnt got one scratch mark on it. we must have well behaved animals. dead easy to clean footprints off with a babywipe or cloth, unlike a material sofa that shows the stains

Dog drool and licking paws has turned patches of the leather paler colour on our dog's sofa.
(I should be on the other thread - he has his OWN leather sofa!!!)
