If you can remember the place you had your last MOT carried out and you know the date, or at least roughly the date, they can provide you a duplicate.

Just after we bought a new car in his wonderous way of tidying up dh threw our MOT certificate away as the car was new (to us) we didn't know where the last MOT was done so ended up shelling out £400 for the new MOT dh's defence was that as he had never owned a car he didn't know what the certificate was and that it probably saved our lives

You can now tax your car online on dvla website. As MOT's are now all held on computer you don't need a certificate as they will check computer records. here

But you need to have the new style MOT certificate though.

Renewing the tax online is wonderful, so easy and quick.
