How long did it take you to pass your driving test?

I had 17, 1 hour lessons in 2.5 months.

pepperpots · 21/02/2006 09:45

had 30 lessons over four months, then passed

Kelly1978 · 21/02/2006 09:45

I think about 5 months, prob about 20 x 2 hour lessons. Had a bad instructor first time, who completely wrecked my confidence, so that put me back a lot. Cost a bloody fortune in the end, but passed first time, last October.

pebblemum · 21/02/2006 09:48

I have taken it about 5 times(lost count after 2 fails) and still not passed. That was 9 yrs ago and I am just thinking of giving it another go. The annoying thing is I can drive brilliantly just could'nt seem to pass the test, got too nervous espcecially as i always used to end up with the examiner who hates women drivers. It was a known fact that only about a third of women he tested actually passed but no one could prove it. Im hoping he has retired by now!!

welshboris · 21/02/2006 10:00

Salsa, thats really good, its what Im aiming for, about 20-25 lessons
Pebblemum you should go for it, then wave the pass paper in his face!

Someone told me you should have as many lessons as your age. I must be ancient then... But did pass in the end.

misdee · 21/02/2006 10:03

when i knuckled down and had lessons each week ,it took me about 5months in the end, i'd be having lessons for 2years on and off, but more often off. peter going into hospital really put me under pressure, which was good in a way cos i think i would've put it off otherwise.

Kelly1978 · 21/02/2006 10:03

pebblemum, go for another test center. I think I had a choice of three.

pebblemum · 21/02/2006 10:13

A friend of mine did that, instead of doing it local he went to one about half hour away and passed first time. He said the roads were a lot better whereas the one local to me takes you down these really horrible streets with cars parked everywhere and everyone rushing you.

May give it a go at the one my friend used, need to be able to drive. I am fed up waiting for buses in the rain

jellyjelly · 21/02/2006 13:38

I had 20 lessons with a instructor and he was still using the clutch and on my 20th lesson i was only just doing a reverse. i changed to another instructor and had about 20/30 more and then passed and now my h2b is driving with him.

When i went to the 2nd one it was like i had never had a lesson.

welshboris · 21/02/2006 13:39

My first lesson yday, I changed up to 2nd and 3rd gear on my own, and did hill starts and drove a bit on my own with no prompting.

Booking my theory this week too

doormat · 21/02/2006 13:40

christina, must be about 150 then
as I spent at least £3000
on and off for 6-7 yrs
3 theory tests
and 6th driving test passed.

Northerner · 21/02/2006 13:43

I'm having lessons at the moment, had 4 so far. Have had hundreds years ago though and failed 3 tests.

But this time I'm gonna do it!!!!

Fimbo · 21/02/2006 13:44

I have been at it for one year now and still haven't reversed yet!

Cristina7 · 21/02/2006 13:44

Doormat, that's a lot of money and time. My first instructor was OK, I though, but he made a crass remark and I changed him. My second was v good. It took me 4 goes but not his fault.

welshboris · 21/02/2006 13:45

Mine are 16.50 an hour thats

OP posts:
Fimbo · 21/02/2006 13:46

Mine are £18 p.h.

Albert · 21/02/2006 13:56

I had 5 x 1 hour lessons and passed first time but I had been riding a motor bike for several years and had a lot of road sense and also knew the theory.

Fimbo · 21/02/2006 13:57

God I must be crap

motherinferior · 21/02/2006 13:59

It took me 17 years

doormat · 21/02/2006 14:02

My first instructor I got rid of as he was useless feck.
I once grabbed his privates instead of the gearstick, I think that was on second lesson
by accident
I couldnt apologise enough
if he was fit I wouldnt of minded.

Northerner · 21/02/2006 14:04

Mine are £20 an hour

Am I being fleeced?

Mind you, I do live in possible the most expensive town in the North.
