Does anyone have one of the British/Scottish Gas or similar policies where you pay about 15 quid a month for boiler breakdown cover and an annual inspection?

Are they worth the money?

rip off.
Put the money into a savings account, save the interest. If the boiler backs up, you will have a fund to replace it. If not, blow it on a flash holiday or stuff you want.
Same goes for those expensive 'extended warranties' flogged by every Comet/Curry's salesperson in the UK.

erm, 'packs up' of course.

a local heating engineer services ours each year for £60 each time.

Agree with the Comet warranties mind you i was one of the lucky ones who got cashback once

Thanks for the feedback - have a 3 year old house and the hot water tank is on the blink - nice warm shower then it goes freezing cold...not that I would try and claim for that of course!! ;)

We have a BG one- just boiler and controls atm though. We kept it going whilst we rented the house out as it saved us getting an alternative annual inspection organised and was cover "just in case". Think it depends how old your boiler etc are and whether you'd want it serviced annually anyway .
