Telephone bills

Our telephone bill is always huge. We're with BT but I've heard that you can save money by using different providers for calls whilst keeping the line rental with BT.
Does anyone else do this and can anyone recommend cheap providers?

I have line rental with BT which is about £11 per month and my calls through Talk Talk. With them I get ree weekend and evening and cheaper than BT during the day. I also get to ring other talk talk users for free. MY bills from talk talk are anything from £2.00 to £7.00 per month depending on my usage obviously
