dont think u get paid for donating eggs.

Jimjams · 04/12/2003 10:26

someone was looking for an egg donor on here a while back- maybe do a search. I don't think you get paid though- only expenses.

Northerner · 04/12/2003 10:30

It's illegal to pay an egg donor in this country. You only get paind for expenses. I believe it's also quite gruelling. Lots of hospital appointments and injections and stuff.

Nikki19 - I suggest you look really carefully at the possible side effects. I was hospitalised twice and nearly died while developing/cultivating eggs. The retrieval procedure is also potentially pretty horrendous. Its not exactly an easy thing to do, though the sentiment is admirable.

I too have though about egg donation, but sadly too old now

It seems not all fertility clinics are as they appear and in some there are woman being put through quite dangerous procedures to harvest their eggs, which obviously put me off. Which is awful for the genuine people who really would want them.

janinlondon · 04/12/2003 16:11

I should have said that the eggs I was developing and harvesting were my own for my own use and that the clinic was top notch. Just wanted to clear that up!

I considered it quite a few years ago, because a friend was unable to have kids, and if I donated eggs, she was pushed up the list. However I was told to do it only if I thought I had completed my family, and that it can give unpleasant side effects. It didn't really matter in the end, as her dh refused to try for a baby , but I felt awful saying no.

Nikki could go to the USA, where she would be paid actual money. If she's 19yo, she'd be considered a good candidate on age grounds. It's not uncommon for American university-age students to do it for extra money. It's not considered a big health risk State-side....

I did think about it, and DH thought about sperm donation(alot easier for him though isn't it) but then I thought of any potential children that could be born from my eggs( or DH's stuff) and just couldn't handle the thought of that child/children not being with me, being mine.

Selfish maybe but I now see my eggs as invaluable to me. God that really is selfish isn't it.
