I have got a potty out but he just isnt getting it. Has had 2 wees (and a poo) so far and does not seem to know its going to happen before he does it.

Hes 2.2.

children often need a pee just after a bath, might help in guessing when to try and get the sample.

could you sterilse a potty and let him/her sit on it?

tap on

shorty3 · 17/02/2006 19:35

sit on your knee with open nappy below a bowl. Wait for very long time baby to wee in bowl.

will be quicker if you do it straight after giving a bottle.

Gloworm · 17/02/2006 19:36

I mean sit on the potty or ages 9read a book or something). until he goes?

shorty3 · 17/02/2006 19:37

sorry didn't read toddler bit. I had to do this in hospital with 6 month old.

Gloworm · 17/02/2006 19:37

is there an all night chemist you could phone to she if they sell those bags?

or an early morning trip to the chemist tomorrow?

tegan · 17/02/2006 20:37

We were in hospital th weekend and they gave us a sanitary towel to put in dd's nappy and then we had to suck the wee out with a syringe and up it in a bottle.

madmarchhare · 17/02/2006 20:38

Success at last, just followed him round with a dish and 10 minutes ago just after he brushed his teeth, bingo. Maybe it was the tap afterall.

we had one of those bag thingys for my DS - ours was from the hospital so not much help but a lot easier than waiting over a potty!

dejags · 17/02/2006 20:40

Ask your GP to provide you with a urine sample catcher (as provided in hospital).

It's a little bag designed for exactly this - we had one for DS2 when he was in hospital last year. It's a little plastic bag with a hole in it which is placed over the child's penis/scrotum. It is basically stuck down so that the urine cannot escape - it doesn't hurt the child when removed.

madmarchhare · 17/02/2006 20:42

Will investigate the bag thing tomorrow, just for future reference.

Anyhow, I can conclude that he certainly isnt ready for potty training yet. At least Im hoping that thats not what its like, lol.

What about a flannel in the nappy?

madmarchhare · 17/02/2006 20:49

Well Ive got it now (see 8.38), the doctor suggested a tea towel used like a nappy (will assume they didnt have any bags) and then wringing it out. I just cant see that working, how much wee did he expect a two year old to do?

re potty training,
oh yes, madmarchhare, did nobody tell you? you have to follow them round all day with a potty. usually a month or two does the trick.

shorty3 · 17/02/2006 20:54

Wahey! You are lucky.

I waited 10 hours in hospital for dd to do one in a bowl. FIrst one she did on a towel but inconclusive, second one we missed the bowl then had to wait till morning wee.

did your gp not give you a little specimen bag that fits over the penis and is stuck to the skin to prevnet leakage - really easy to use - had to do it with dd2. They are trickier on girls but have managed to use them with both dds.
