here

I know we have at least one mumsnetter with an Arthur, but am pretty sure that their middle name isn't Elwen

and who is Elwen in Lord of the Rings? I can think of Arwen and Elrond, but not an Elwen

So it's a girl's name, PeachyClair?

I'm sure the different spelling Elwen/Elwyn does make a difference, but it's so unusual either way that I got interested.

PeachyClair · 18/02/2006 14:31

Oh goodness so it is!

Why didn't I notice that???? tee hee! Poor kid!

mszebra · 18/02/2006 14:39

I thought I read that Ivan is 4, now.

I like Arthur. Nancy surprised me, though. I thought British people sneered at it.

Nightynight · 18/02/2006 15:00

I like his childrens names

but that doesnt mean Ill be voting for him, cos I wont.

Nbg · 18/02/2006 15:15

I quite like the name, a bit different and I can't believe he felt the need to justify having 2 weeks paternity.

PeachyClair · 18/02/2006 15:18

No, justifying paternity leave IS sad.

It should be available to all though, not just those who can afford to take it.

Blandmum · 18/02/2006 15:19

Elwyn is a Welsh name. My fathers older brother was called elwyn

Nightynight · 18/02/2006 15:20

he probably got ribbed about the paternity leave at his club, so he doesnt realise how the rest of us see it.

I have a lovely book called Why the reindeer were chosen and Santa's chief elf is called Elwen so think she definitely chose the name cos of that.
Neither Arthur nor Elwen are particularly run of the mill names round here, maybe she read the chav name thread on mumsnet and wanted to steer well clear!

Come to think of it MB, I have a sort-of-uncle (you know, one of those friends of parents who I've always called Uncle...but isn't really) who's Welsh and called Aldwyn.
