Can you appeal the decision they made?

I take it you have epilepsy? Is it normally well-controlled?

colditz · 16/02/2006 22:35

I can see both sides here, Carla. On the one hand, I understand totally why you want your license back, on the other hand I understand totally why the DVLA won't let you. It's too dangerous.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/02/2006 22:36

Would have helped if you had said that in your OP carla instead of allowing everyone to hazard a guess as to what the Feck you were talking about.

So, do you have epilepsy or was this a one off? Will they review your status again in the future?

pussycatmomma · 16/02/2006 22:36

do you have epilepsy? Carla this is like a jigsaw for us peeps who do not know you well!

pussycatmomma · 16/02/2006 22:37

sorry vicki crossed post

BettySpaghetti · 16/02/2006 22:37

If it is epilepsy you can go back to driving once your medication has been stabilized and you've been fit-free for a certain amount of time (can't remember how long I'm afraid) -happened to someone I worked with

hunkermunker · 16/02/2006 22:37

Carla, can you see why not posting more details winds people up?

You did this on your money thread recently - why do it again?

Flossam · 16/02/2006 22:38

I don't think this is an epilepsy problem. More like withdrawel?

pussycatmomma · 16/02/2006 22:38

if it is not epilepsy, someone further down mentioned s/harm. I can categorically say that self harming does not affect your ability to drive or clarity of thought to do so

pussycatmomma · 16/02/2006 22:39

are you still there carla?

Aero · 16/02/2006 22:40

Do you feel that your license has been unfairly revoked because of the health issue? Are you likely to suffer another fit? I expect they will be wanting to make sure it is safe for you to drive before they reinstate it.

Apologies again for mis-understanding before and am certainly not taking the pee. Like soapy says, I'd be concerned for you.

I am a right b&gger for doing that in RL conversations, HM - assuming people know more than they do, starting off telling a story at the wrong point, generally thinking aloud - I think it can be a bad habit you fall into, rather than a deliberate attempt to wind people up.

I'm off to bed now. Good luck in sorting out whatever the exact medical condition is, and hopefully you'll get your licence back in ? 12 months time.

take carex

When you say that your fit was cause by too much alcohol in a short period of time, to my mind the only thing that fits into this would be Alcohol Withdrawal. I can see why the DVLA would be concerned about this happening again, if that is indeed the case at all.

pussycatmomma · 16/02/2006 22:43

SOZ!
only trying to help......

colditz · 16/02/2006 22:44

On of my mates had a fit in a nightclub, caused by strobes, and the dvla really did not want to gib=ve her the licence back. They are so strict about it.

chin up chick!

colditz · 16/02/2006 22:47

Maybe in 6 months time, if you stay absolutely teetotal, you can badger your Gp about badgering the DVLA.

Aero · 16/02/2006 22:47

Ahhhhhh - now I see why you are feeling so frustrated. That makes more sense now.

BettySpaghetti · 16/02/2006 22:47

Carla if you're on medication for this can you drink whilst taking it?

I'm asking as the person I worked with who had fits could not drink with her med.

Is this what you mean about the bottle of wine with your friend? Did you drink whilst on your medication?

Flossam · 16/02/2006 22:47

Right so it was withdrawel, as I said lower down. I'm sorry but to get to the stage where you withdraw from alchohal (hm i need your spelling tip again!!) you are drinking ALOT. And, imo, no you probably are not in a fit state to drive.

jamiesam · 16/02/2006 22:48

So are dvla saying it's either drink or license? Can you never have a drink again if you want your driving license back? That does sound pretty tough but I guess if the concern is a medical concern that you have a high chance of a fit (which would be dreadful whether in or out of a car) then it sounds like you shouldn't drink regardless of whether or not you want to drive ever again??? Presumably it compares to a diabetic who has to control their diet very closely?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/02/2006 22:51

Errr - how do they know you drank a bottle of wine in september?
