Its unpainted, VERY loud and getting on my tits. DS1 loves helicopters but the noise frightens him so he has to look while i have hold of him but DS2 is terrified!

And also i am a nosy cow coz its just gone over for the 4th time!!

don't know, but hello i'm from near you!

Berries · 16/02/2006 14:26

No idea, but would imagine a helicopter is just the thing to go up & down the A6 with - much better than a car

MerlinsBeard · 16/02/2006 14:37

Don't know where Stockport is. Any chance you are near this: Centrica Gas Platform fire

Tinker · 16/02/2006 15:28

Oh, have just driven past this!

fairyfly · 16/02/2006 15:30

it is coming from woodford aerospace, they test them

MerlinsBeard · 16/02/2006 19:19

no uwila i am no where near

had thought of woodford aerospace but Woodford is diff direction to where it was coming/going. ah well, stopped a while ago (or i stopped noticing loL!)

Could it have been taking aerial photos

So they can be sold etc and put on internet mapping sites

Racers · 16/02/2006 19:32

oh yes, if you think they are taking photos, make sure you are out painting the shed or something!
My MIL was watering her plants in her massive and admittedly beautiful garden when they took the photo. THey bought it as the previous one done was 30yrs ago and they'd done lots to the house so it was a nice thing to have. She is a bit embarassed that she was sort of bending over at the time though LOL!!

RTKangaMummy · 16/02/2006 19:36

Or it could have been someone learning to fly and so using the road to keep a flight path and practise following a river or road for the right direction

Dottydot · 16/02/2006 21:22

I hear that helicopter from time to time aswell!! I always thought it must be a police helicopter (lots of baddies round here..!)

MerlinsBeard · 18/02/2006 19:56

turns out it was a marine helicopter and was at a school in Marple then goign somewhere else (got that from the paper) assuming that means taht they were giving "rides"

LOL @ aerial mapping...i live on a tiny row above a shop so no chance of me being in it

We had a sea king helicopter do an emergency landing near us, Dh and a few of the Dads picking up the boys from cubs were chatting to the pilot, he had to land it on a tiny patch of grass or ditch it in the river as he couldn't make it to a nearby helipad.

One of the Dads has to tow out the rescue truck as it got stuck then then once it was on the road the trailer collapsed under it. DS was happy though as he got to sit in the chopper for a bit while they tried to get the truck out.

threelittlebabies · 18/02/2006 22:10

I am in Stockport, not near enough to have seen it though. To those of you in Stockport, are you coming on the Northern meet up in July?!

MerlinsBeard · 18/02/2006 22:11

threelittlebabies · 18/02/2006 23:20

Anyone else- Berries, Judd?

NannyL · 18/02/2006 23:44

we always have helicopters around here

1 we live right by the sea so theri are often search and rescue ones about

  1. also live near an army base which has a constant stream of helicopters

  2. we arnt that far from several fields etc where private helicopters land

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/02/2006 23:47

Always get helicopters over us at night especially. I assume its to do with the high crime rate around here.....they are generally police ones with spotlights.

MerlinsBeard · 19/02/2006 10:12

i used to live in cheadle hulme 3lb, now i am Hazel Grove. went to Stockport College after DS1 was born to do a flexu course so know it ish

mumofmonsters - my niece mentioned at the weekend that she was invited onto a military helicopter for her 'impecable' attendance. She didn't go though, as she said she thought it was just to look at it, not to go up. The ones going up were the ones thinking of a career in that line. This was at a Marple school.

threelittlebabies · 20/02/2006 17:14

mumofmonsters and anyone else in Stockport or nearby, have you seen the meet up thread? Just tried to link but can't
