Small Town or Big City?

I was born in a huge city and have lived in medium to large cities all my life.

Yesterday, we went for a drive to a smaller town. Had a nose around.

Both DH and I got in the car, looked at each other, shook our heads and said, 'Nice place to visit, but . . . '

Living in a smaller town/village just isn't for us.

How many of you couldn't hack small town life?
Or vice versa?

I grew up in a middle size town. Hated it at the time, but now have fond memories. Knew lots of people and would bump into them, nice and friendly. Miss it. Lived in large cities since, but this one is too large and I'm looking forwaRd to going to a slightly smaller one!

would change that to middle size town

expatinscotland · 15/02/2006 23:06

This was a medium sized town, probably about 50,000 people.

TOO claustrophobic for us.

I was born and brought up in a small town and couldnt wait to get out of it. I then lived in a big city for 10 years and yearned for a small town. Im now in a small town and yearning for a big city. Some people are never satisfied

brimfull · 15/02/2006 23:08

think the town I live in has 16,000 pop.

City, city, city.
Although the one I'm in is Liverpool and it has a lot of the qualities of a small village, ie everybody knows everybody and there isn't really a proper deli.

ThePrisoner · 15/02/2006 23:12

Was brought up in village - brilliant for building dens in the woods and being outdoors all day long BUT - there's no way I'd have allowed my children to be out and uncontactable like I was, and I also didn't have any friends (just much younger brothers and their little mates!)

Now live in medium-size town but would love to live in village (dds now technically adults so they can go to the woods whenever they want now!!)

I've been born and brought up in liverpool but we are planning to move to the village of Holmfirth in west yorks very soon. I'll welcome the break from city life I want the greenery and fresh air of the country saying that I wouldnt want to live right out in the sticks where we're moving to is a short train ride into The city.
