Has anyone else signed up to complete the N.C.H. Swimathon? I've - probably rather rashly - pledged to swim the 2500m distance. I really need to start following Duncan Goodhew's training tips in ernest! Any moral support from other swimmers gratefully received!

I am still thinking about doing it and if i do it will be for the full distance.

I did it back in 1992, 3 months after my dd was born and it took me nearly 3 and a half hours. Rosemary Conley was giving out the medals to those who had completed the distance but she buggered off as I took too long and the pool manager gave me mine!

If there isn't a time limit then I might have a go this year.

I started my new fitness regime today, swimming 50 lengths this morning. It was hard work! I've got 5 weeks to double this distance...... I'll keep you posted!

Swimming with dds this morning so can't really call it a training session! Managed to do about 30 lengths between playing sharks and attempting handstands-very embarrassing!

Went for my usual swim today. Worked hard so should sleep well tonight! 100 lengths seems an incredibly long distance though. My furthest so far is 60 lengths...... I'll try to increase this tomorrow.

God - that brings backs memories! I did it in 87 and 88 - not sure I could quite do it these days. the last time I did any serious swimming I nearly collapsed after 10 lengths (I was 9 months preg at the time though which may explain it )
Good luck

Thanks for your words of encouragement, Tommy. It's nice to know that someone else has completed (and survived!) the Swimathon! I managed 60 lengths again today, so I am at least consistent!

My knees are really aching today. Could this be a result of too much breaststroke? I tend to do 4 lengths frontcrawl and 8 lengths breaststroke - too much crawl leaves me totally knackered! Any thoughts?

knees shouldn't ache if doing breast stroke properly. I used to do 2 lengths crawl, 2 on my back and 6 breast stroke. Can you get someone to have a look at your leg action?

Thanks, Tommy. I'll certainly follow your advice.

A gentle swim this morning. I tried to concentrate on my stroke technique rather than distance.

I lost count today! I'd estimate about 50 lengths but felt pleased that the strokes seemed to be going well and I didn't feel quite so exhausted when I got out the pool!

Another gentle Sunday morning swim today. I'm aware with just 3 weeks to go I really should be pushing myself a lot harder........(blush)
