1 I need a tie in midnight blue for dp and ds.

2 What to do with my nails, basic manicure or french?

3 Not even thought about flowers yet, any ideas?

And lastly, my silly question for the day - what happens on the wedding day with your engagement ring, do you put it on another finger, not wear it at all, clueless!! Then of course, once hitched, do you put engagement ring on first then wedding ring or visa versa!

Thanks everyone for your ideas, knew I could rely on Mners. That's the trouble when you are having a secret wedding, you can't ask for advice from the people you know!

I think roses are beautiful and timeless, they don't date like some of the more tredny styles around and you could then have the flower girls with baskets of petals to throw. I did this as I knew the two girls wouldn't have the patience to hold bouquets for a long time.
This is lovely
you could match the ribbon colour of the bouquet with the colour of your dh's tie or suit

no th e deal ws you wear your engangment ring ont he other hand till afetr the ceremony

Somanykiddies · 15/02/2006 13:23

Meggmoo, that's beautiful, would red roses be ott, or should I stick with a softer colour?

DD3 wants a basket so she can put her fav toy in it so he can come to the wedding!

Thanks SS, had enough bad luck in last 18 months, will steer clear! Boredom gone yet?

like the idea of red roses against the light-coloured dresses!

Baskets definitely a good idea for the younger ones - just be glad no tiny flowergirls to eat the petals / tip them over the vicar's shoes / stuff them down MIL's front.
6 and 10 sound very responsible!

meggmoo · 15/02/2006 13:29

I had deep red and deep pink which sounds awful but they were just stunning. I love the contrast of the red and white.

I think it is bad luck if you mix red and white flowers. meant to represent blood and bandages apparently.

meggmoo · 15/02/2006 13:32

the only red ones I could find - they're massive!

Somanykiddies · 15/02/2006 13:34

Bit ott I think. Will go to florist soon to see what they come up with, anyone know if you can take the book home to look at?

when I got married, 6 years ago - there was a magazine called 'wedding flowers' or something similar and I have seen it since. Think they only do one per 'season' but it might be worth having a look for in a big newsagent.

MrsBadger · 15/02/2006 13:59

unlikely they'll let you take the book home - perhaps take a camera/phone and take pics of the ones you like?

More reasonable size rose bouquets here - they're actually the people who did my wedding flowers and will do custom colours etc.

(Yes it was me in that pic!).

Somanykiddies · 15/02/2006 14:07

Will troll the shelves for bridal mags with flower feature, thanks again ladies.

A cautionary word here. When you book your flowers, make sure they write down as much detail as possible about what you want, and don't want. I was shown some beautiful examples of flowers (real arrangements made up then and there), but when my flowers arrived on the day they were a bitter disappointment. I was so upset that I sent them back to the florist and asked them to re-do them because they were completely the wrong style (structured and bunched, rather than cascading and loose which I had asked for).

I only got the flowers back 30 minutes before the wedding started (and I lived 20 minutes away from the church!!!)

meggmoo · 15/02/2006 14:24

Wow Mrs B those are stunning!

Somanykiddies · 15/02/2006 14:41

Thanks for the warning Littlefish, must have been very stressful for you.
