Hi, I know I had a lot of help with some of these this morning, but I still have another 8 to go....
I need the title of the book, the author and the name of the character talking.
Many thanks.

11; "it's a good way to keep everyone in order. And you know how he likes order. While they're hypnotized, he tells them what to do when they wake up.And they can't help doing it. And I think he probably makes us learn things parrot fashion, while we're hypnotised. Then when we're awake, we can remember themand write them down"

12; "now William, you jest join up the dots from the top downwards and when you done that, yous'll have written yer name. Now jest takes yer own time, Easy now"

13; "Yes, there are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair, and brightare their spears. Their leader is very tall. The riders are little more than five leagues distant..."there are three empty saddles, but I see no Hobbits"

19; "So you can tell your father what you've seen. No evil spirit. Just my daughter, asleep under a spell, and in my care. But, please, Ama, tell your father that this must be a secret. No-one but you two must know Lyra is here. If the enchanter knew where she was, he would seek her outand destroy her, and me, and everything nearby. So hush! Tell your father, and no one else"

23;"Iam not playing yo-yo! My son is at the other end of this lace if you must know!"

30; "I don't mind feeling giddy. I don't mind having a button for an eye and a paw that doesn't match. I don't even mind being hung up by the ear. But what I DO mind, what I mind VERY MUCH is having a silly squeaker in my tummy that won't squeak!"

mummytosteven · 14/02/2006 19:42

11 sounds like it might be the Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross. Not positive though..

MarsOnLife · 14/02/2006 19:43

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/02/2006 19:47

19 - The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pulman

17; "save me, only save me, dear kind Mr engine-driver, and I will confess everything! I am not the simplewasherwoman i seem to be! I have no children waiting for me, innocent or otherwise! I have just escaped, by my daring and cleverness, from a loathsome dungeon into which my enemies had flung me; and if those fellows on that engine recapture me, it will be chains and bread-and-water and straw and misery once more. I only borrowed a motorcar while the owners were at lunch; they had no need of it at the time. I didn't mean to steal it really; but people- especially magistrates- take such harsh views of thoughtless and high spirited actions"

18; "you know, doctor, that vet over the hill knows nothing at all. He has been treating me six weeks nowfor spavins. What I need is SPECTACLES. I am going blindin one eye. There's no reasonwhy horses shouldn't wear glasses, the same as peoplew. But that stupid man over the hillnever even looked at my eyes. He kept on giving me big pills. I tried to tell him but he couldn't understand a word of horse-language. What I need is spectacles. I would like apair like yours, only green. They'll keep the sun out of my eyes whilst I'm plowing the fifty acre field"

18: Doctor Doolittle, by Hugh Loftin

WigWamBam · 14/02/2006 20:02

(Which, thinking about it, is probably spelled Dolittle rather than Doolittle)

Miaou · 14/02/2006 20:16

No. 19, the person who is speaking is Marisa Coulter (if you still need that)

3princesses · 14/02/2006 20:20

Miaou · 14/02/2006 20:21

Actually makealist, can I ask a favour? We have to come up with some fundraising ideas for our local community hall - could I get a copy of the quiz from you? It would a fab way to raise funds (was trying to think of a quiz-type activity to do)

makealist · 14/02/2006 20:32

Hi Miaoa,

I shall get a spare copy and send it to you.
