my three are 8, 11 and 14, i have spent most of my days tidying up after them(normal practise i know) but i was just wondering should i put some of the normal household jobs onto them, dusting, hoovering washing up etc or is that really bad, i'm not lazy but i just feel maybe if they know what is involved that they might think twice before messing something up if they are the one's that have to tidy it up. please let me know if your kids do chores what age did you make them do it.

By the time I was the age of your eldest, PL, I had fixed chores - I did the washing up, I did my own room (including changing linens, hoovering etc) I cleaned the bathroom and toilet on saturdays (when Mum did the housework) and hoovered upstairs. I was general tea maker (but I had a cup as well, so not a hardship) and often made lunch at the weekends.

ATM my kids are younger (2,5 and 7) and I don't ask them to do much, and that won't change until they get a bit older. They help when they are asked to, they tidy their room and make the beds, and help set the table for dinner. DSs watch their sister in the mornings (so I get a lie in at weekends and holidays - I work late nights ) and in the evening so I can cook dinner in peace. I'll add more things as we go.
