HELP! BURNED POPCORN SMELL AND DEAD MICROWAVE

expatinscotland · 09/02/2006 23:41

I'm staying up till the wee hours w/a f*cking deadline - of course I proscrastinated. I offered to make DH popcorn and b/c I mostly defrost in there, I automatically switched it to 6 mins. .

Needless to say, there was smoke EVERYWHERE! Fuck!

DH rushed 8 week old DD2 OUT - DD1 is sleeping in her room and the fire door to it was closed.

The smoke is cleared.

But the stench remains.

Could it be harmful to DD2??

The microwave's gone . . .

Even when you cook it right it stinks the house out. I think if smoke has cleared and room been well ventilated then should be OK.

We have managed to burn popcorn too, but haven't killed the microwave. Although MIL's still has some brown marks. Like any burnt smell it will linger for a while.

Apparantly bread is good for cleaning smoke off walls and surfaces, tried it mums wallpaper but it was to textured.

When I was at school my cousin sent me some weird cake type things from South Africa that had to be softened in the microwave. Anyway for somer reason I took them to my friends house. We decided to cook them and put themm in microwave for 30 secs and they were as hard as bricks, did a bit longer and a bit longer and still no joy so put them in for 6 minutes and left them, went upstairs to do makeup and hair as we were getting the bus into town. Anyway obviously did not work the timer right and when we went down the microwave was on fire and there were burn marks on the wall and my friends Mum had only just had new kitchen

i've burnt two things almost disastrously this week. boil a lemon or similar (i did a tangerine peel ate the fruit) was fab for horrendous stench. also works in microwave, but alas not for you atm

I'm boiling up some lemon slices. It still smells pretty rank, tho. DH is still out.

I feel like such a numpty. Well, it is pretty funny the now, tho.
