Trying to come up with something new for our xmas drinks party - I love making (and eating) them. Things I like/usually make:

Duck & Hoisin Sauce & spring onion & cucumber pancakes
Mini yorkshire puds with roast beef and horseradish
Mini pitta breads and hummus
Little sausages wrapped in bacon
Smoked salmon & watercress on brown bread
Pastry shell things (bought) filled with cream cheese and roasted peppers
Mini Mince Pies

I know there are more but I can't remember them right now.

Would like some new ideas, pref things that can be substatially made in advance and then thrown together on the morning.

Bet you lot will come up with some superb ideas!

Could the dog walker not double up as a canape maker?

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 15:39

Oh Okay thought I was in a slight minority for a minute!! Must remember to make notes on you lot as being the girl I don't know when you are being serious. Can someone tell me is FairyMum one of the website co-ordinators? (Sorry to change the subject!!)

dsw · 27/11/2003 15:43

Oops that should have said "new girl"

ThomCat · 27/11/2003 15:44

I've thought of something - inject little plum tomatoes with vodka - makes a bloody mary in a bite - fantastic! It's a Delia idea and it works well. Maybe there's a bit more to it than just vodka - if you like the sound of it I'll dig the idea out of my book.

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 15:44

dsw don't quite understand that post - "being the girl" specifically!!

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 15:44

Thomcat brilliant idea! Will defo try that one

Vodka WaterMelon - Is Lush!!!

Cut the top and bottom off a WaterMelon, wrap in tip foil so that vodka can't escape from bottom, but leaving it open at the top.Stand on plate (the watermelon not you.) so is sitting flat and not rocking about, pour in the Vodka, it takes a while to soak in, but keeping topping it up and prefferably leave over night - adds to the potency!! Cut into slices and serve.

codswallop · 27/11/2003 15:51

codswallop · 27/11/2003 15:53

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 15:59

And why is that like your mum? I love seeing all my mates at xmas it's fun, it usually goes on from 1pm to 1am and everyone gets lashed and has fun.

How on earth do you mothers-of-small children get time to make canapes for drinks parties? Don't they take ages?

Northerner · 27/11/2003 16:01

Tongue in cheek Coddy.

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 16:02

Not if you are a skilled canape maker of many years standing

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 16:03

I have a great recipe for Mulled Wine - courtesy of the resident chef in SavaCentre. Copious amounts do help with wrapping all the Xmas prezzies on Xmas Eve, the thing is you think you are doing a good job - till you see them in the morning!!!

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 16:12

I love mulled wine - what's your recipe dsw?

My favourite is prunes or dates wrapped in streaky bacon (v easy, you wrap them and then bung them in the oven - serve warm).

They would lend themselves very well to being stuck on cocktail sticks in an orange a la boyandgirl!

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 16:19

Ahem Beety, not allowed on this thread without a recipe!!!

Senora prunes might have them queuing up for the loo?

Can't beat a good fondue party IMO.

Bottles of Cheapy Red Wine, Lemonade (2.5 - 1) Dark Rum, Ginger Wine,(Generous pouring with both) Cloves and Cinnamon Sticks, Lemons, Oranges, chuck all in big pan and simmer on low for good hour or so - add more rum/ginger wine to taste.
Might have to make some when I get home now - mouth is watering!! (Not that I've got a drink problem!!)

dsw · 27/11/2003 16:38

Oops forgot the Demerara Sugar!!
