CountessDracula · 08/02/2006 21:47

OK this is my genuine list that I emailed to dh today, all I have changed is dd/dog name to dd/dog not their real ones....

Please any comments from those that have done it

Also any from those who have given up 6 figure salaries to become SAHMs

FOR
Better work life balance (ie you work I live ;-) - you won't have to worry about any of the day to day crap and I won't have to be rushed off my feet all the time and both feeling like crumbling into a heap/bottle every night.
School holidays not a total mare and DD gets brought up by her mother not an assortment of paid and grandparent help.
DOG would get lovely walks from both of us and not be brought up by mad fascist
Will spend less in general as will be able to shop around, cook from scratch most of time etc. Also healthier
I could work p/t still and earn good money which we could blow on fancy holidays etc
I would have time to control budget etc so we would know where we were with cash (albeit bugger all)
If we have another brat then I will be around to look after it (should that be in against?)
Lots of nice free babysitting even overnighters
You would get home in time to do stuff in the week like Gym, Am Dram, Cinema etc (that's what you do in the country y'know)
We would be much less exhausted
Nice country pursuits like walks, shooting, fishing to do
Do already know some people to hang out with
You could lie in more at weekends as I will be able to snooze during day if exhausted on eg Fridays
Our house would be nice and organised and I would know where everything was.

Against

First time ever lack of equality in relationship
Less overall cash (but not much)
Pressure of being breadwinner all on you - could you deal as have never had to do this?
No option of you packing it in if it gets too much (though I suppose I could go back to my job, people often seem to)
You will be committing to being a Lawyer for ever and ever amen. (well not really, see last point)
Will have to drink crap wine 99% of time as so poor
We won't know many people
We may have to hang out with cretins til we meet nice peeps
We will have to see London friends for whole weekends not just a night which may be annoying (though is actually probably quite nice and as only 1hr from London could invite just for Sat night)
I may go mad
I may have to be a drudge (may do me good)
DD may be teenage junkie
We may be taxi service for her until she gets fed up with boring country and bogs off to London.
Too much driving in general

nitfreecod · 08/02/2006 21:48

"DD may be teenage junkie "

CountessDracula · 08/02/2006 21:49

really? Yet you still did it

Klauz33 · 08/02/2006 21:58

Dont move to country, move to a small town/city!!

Being a lawyer is s**t

Yes the equality in the relationship changes but you have inputted into the financial equation so you don't have to take any macho c**p. DP tried it on me and I gave him short shrift.

DP decided that we needed more money so has gone out and earnt it - hurrah!! I get to give him some support, not home cooked dinners every night I hasten to add but it is nice to give him support while he earns all the dosh

You can still work in the future, these days provinical law firms are much more attractive proposition. You can find something you really want to do, as law is s**t.

We have a 100 ft garden with raspberries, apple and pear trees and beautiful views . I look out of the kitchen whilst I am doing the washing up and my heart lifts.

I have met in 6 months, admittedly DS1 starting reception helped, a partner in a local law firm, an ex Accenture management consultant, a buddhist, SAHM's, sports psychologist, human resources manager to name but a few..

If you go in with the right attitude then you will meet people.

CountessDracula · 08/02/2006 21:59

Thanks Klaus

CountessDracula · 08/02/2006 22:00

He is lawyer not me
