DH has just taken DD2 for her 8 month check and she has lost weight apparently, she is now below the 50th% line.

Her advice stop breastfeeding at night!! WTF!!!

Do you think it might have anything to do with her crawling at 4months!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody health visitors!
They just seem to incite worry in those unsure and exasperation in those confident enough to not care!

waterfalls · 08/02/2006 20:38

stop breastfeeding at night

How would that help exactly???? Stupid bloody woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

katzg · 08/02/2006 20:42

i know - as i have just posted on the june thread, she has obviously got some secret diet we know nothing about, drink full fat milk and stay off the veggies and you'll lose weight, cause that what she suggesting is DD2's problem

My DS twins were only ever just above the 25th, the HV used to go on about it, but they ate really well and were very healthy, so I just ignored her and just stoped going.
They are now very healthy 7yo, still stick thin but eat us out of house and home. They are so slim because they never stop running/jumping/leaping about.
If your child is healthy and eats well, then don't worry.

emkana · 08/02/2006 20:49

Has she actually lost weight or has she put on weight but gone down on the percentiles?

Both my dd's were on the 98th percentile for weight at birth, similar for height, but at around six months were on 50th percentile for weight while still being tall/long. That's just because the charts were based on bottle-fed babies and are not accurate for b/fed babies.

Yeah, and stopping b/feeding at night would really help...FFS

Health visitors are mindless idiots sent to prey on vulnerable mothers with their ill educated and unscientific balderdash. Cast them out.

Bloody Health Visitors

BTW crawling at 4 months?

Racers · 08/02/2006 20:58

LOL trice!

lua · 08/02/2006 21:06

trice are you an HV?!
Sorry if any of this offends you....
but... if you are....can you enlighten us why is this such a common advice? My HV has told me the samething. and DD dropped two centile lines since stopping bfing....

katzg · 08/02/2006 21:08

i know great

Wallace - more of a commando crawl but moving very fast!! crawling properly but 5.5months!! she is now 8 months and crusing very well and can stand unsupported for a few mins!!!! think we'll be walking soon!

She has put on weight but has dropped from the 90th percentile down to below the 50th, but she was last weighed at the beginning of dec when she had just got really fast at moving and was everywhere, so burning lots of calories.

I'm supposed to take her back in 8 weeks.

The other useful piece of advice was to move her out of bedroom and into her own - like we hadn't wanted to do this but she wakes her sister up and visa verse, and we've had to have building work down to get her her own room!! crazy women

1st post when i took my dd for her 8month check up i was told that i had to take her to see the doctor as her head hadn't grown at the same rate as her. if i didn't she would report me to SS.

i should add like you dd was already crusing walking at 10 months.

WestCountryLass · 08/02/2006 23:44

I stopped going to mine when we were having the MMR dilemma (following media interst a few years ago) and I went in to say I was delaying while I made up my mind and to take into account DS being prematuire and mine said:

"I am allergic to penecillin but just because I would die if I had it doesn't mean I want it banned"
