Which is the best company, which should I avoid?

Having spent over a year tied in with the most shoddy broadband provider on the planet, I don't want to make the same mistake again!

tiscali are cheap & good but if you need to talk to anyone their automated phone system will drive you MAD.

Thanks! I think I'll go with Virgin, I was with them for PAYG dial up once and found that, strangely, when I rang them, people answered the phone . Automated customer service is a bugbear of mine (no-one to argue with ), so I'll probably avoid tiscali, thanks though pesme.
Aimsmum, what are NTL like for customer service? The other temptation of course, is that Virgin is not a yearly contract .
