Wtf is it with grown women and Tigger/Winnie the Pooh obsessions?

I've meant to post this for ages. I've lost count of the number of seemingly perfectly normal, sane, professionally qualified in some cases, women who have a Tigger or WTP 'thing' - what's that all about? I just don't get it. Are you one? Explain it then please! These are grown women with large Tiggers/WTPs on their beds/dressing tables, it's weird.

MIL is into cuddly toys, her bedroom is stuffed with them. When we had ds she bought him this massive, massive, huge, enormous teddy for his first xmas, he was 8 weeks old. It now lives in the attic. She continued to "buy" cuddly toys for the kids, usually from the thrift shop, which sorry to sound snobby, were frankly disgusting.

I hate cuddly toys.
Anyway dd1 just turned 2 and for her birthday MIL gave her a huge, huge, enormous framed picture of WTP!!!

Its not on the wall, yet.......

She gave it a man's name, too, sober. Yep, that says a lot about her.

I'd have left circles of dust around her.

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 18:33

Ebay, MrsPitt, Ebay. I hate cuddlies, too.

harpsichordcarrier · 05/02/2006 18:34

my very dear friend is like this
wears a lot of pink
bed full of cuddlies
has a name for her car
also has a teddy bear that she dresses up in clothes from the Bear FActory

moondog · 05/02/2006 18:37

SL lol at the hammock in the car and the strapped in teddy thing.

A close relative of mine works in a cina shop and has a cuddly toy fetish.
Can you imagine the crap I get given?????

(They love me when it is time for the school fete.)

mrspitt · 05/02/2006 18:38

Keep thinking i must just be heartless but what is the point in cuddly toys, of any description?

THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING, except take up valuable space!

Ebay will love me for what it is about to receive then!!!!
Quite a few have sneaked their way back to charity shops too.

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 18:39

Oh gawd! I hate those china sh*te shops almost as much as I hate cuddlies - they usually smell like a bunch of fake ass chemicals that give me a sore head.

noddyholder · 05/02/2006 18:39

agree agree agree! Why do people like them.Especially hideous reclining on adults beds!

puff · 05/02/2006 18:42

I lost count of the number of teachers who kept their paperwork in Winnie the Pooh folders, including OFSTED inspectors.

Could never take these people seriously.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/02/2006 18:45

But mrspitt, plush toys are great for one thing - collecting dust.

The only actually cool plush toy I've seen in ages was a plush paramecium that a friend had. Very cute, with fringe for cilia.

miggy · 05/02/2006 18:48

dd bought me a purse with WTP on last xmas, I dutifully used it for about 6 mths but had to put my hand over the front of it when I got it out of my bag.

moondog · 05/02/2006 18:49

lol Puff.
I was once given a huge purple stuffed dinosaur (as large as me,and I'm 1.75 m)
It never even entered my house.
Drove straight from the place where I was 'gifte' to Age Concern.
d

NotQuiteCockney · 05/02/2006 18:53

Oh, I do have a Hello Kitty change purse. But you have to look closely to tell it's Hello Kitty, it looks like an Evisu print, I think.

puff · 05/02/2006 18:55

moondog

I had a quiet word with a mate of mine and told her she needed to ditch Winnie if she had any hope of promotion

moondog · 05/02/2006 18:55

lmao some more...

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 18:56

I can't even take those Radley bags seriously b/c they have that silly dog charm thingie. Charms on bags . . . another thing I just don't get.

TambaTheTemptress · 05/02/2006 18:57

Dh keeps buying me Pooh bear stuff i have...

A necklace
Watch
3 Mugs
huge teddy
varies othe teddies
T-shirts
2 jumpers
key rings
Purse
Posters
The complete series of books

Need i go on????

It does my bloody head in!

(although i did but a top the other week but it was a really nice top and just had a very little pooh bear on it)

WideWebWitch · 05/02/2006 19:00

lol at Sorenlorensen and Sobernow. Naming CARS? That's downright weird too. Hello Kitty is another matter I think, it's kitschy (not that I have any) rather than sad.

I do have a radley bag, this one but I cut the dog off before I ever used it, as SOON as I got home.

I didn't even know you get get adult sized Disney clothing??

That is so very very wrong.

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 19:03

Tamba you need to train your partner. DH would never even dare to think of buying me anything w/Pooh on it. And sorry, if he did, I'd tell him I didn't like it and take it back and exchange it for something I like.

All my mugs come out of Starbuck's w/the exception of a nice collection of Bridgewater my mum gets me for birthday/Mum's Day, etc.

Flossam · 05/02/2006 19:03

I did have a short obsession with a winnie the pooh bear for all of three weeks. It was when I first found out I was pregnant and DP and I were arguing and it was something to cuddle at night. It didn't last long and it wasn't so much that it was pooh bear, more that it was something to cuddle. DP won it for me in a war against the bloody arcade machine to prove his masculinity.

DS does however have a pooh bear, which is his current 'favourite'. Not my first choice of a favourite teddy for him (especially considering MIL brought it for him ) but one that was roughly the same size as the bear we lost and a very good replacement it seems.

Oh, and I do own a couple of winnie the pooh pyjamas, brought for their BF'ing ease while pregnant. If I promise never to do it again can I stay please?
