Wtf is it with grown women and Tigger/Winnie the Pooh obsessions?

I've meant to post this for ages. I've lost count of the number of seemingly perfectly normal, sane, professionally qualified in some cases, women who have a Tigger or WTP 'thing' - what's that all about? I just don't get it. Are you one? Explain it then please! These are grown women with large Tiggers/WTPs on their beds/dressing tables, it's weird.

I agree that it's weird. I remember seeing some WTP adult clothing on Ebay and loads of people had bid on it.

Funnily enough, dp and I were talking about our neighbour the other day - she's mid 30s with a boyfriend who doesn't want to live with her and she lives alone. Needless to say, in the back of her car against the back window she has this huge teddy that just sits there. Freaky eh?

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 17:19

i'm tellin' ya, it's a fetish.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 17:22

teddies in car aka mobile toy shop

alexsmum · 05/02/2006 17:29

its quite difficult to get a plain pair of adult womens pjs that dn't have some kind of cutesy cartoon, teddy thing on them.
and my other hate is adult knickers with littlemiss naughty or little miss cute or whatever on.little miss vomit more likely.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 17:33

yeah, i'm too fat to wear them even if i did like them.. for skinny girls with no boobs (not that i'm jealous or anything)

NotQuiteCockney · 05/02/2006 17:38

Eh, I can't stand WTP, particularly the Disney kind. But I do quite like Hello Kitty. My house isn't Kitty-themed, but my phone is a Hello Kitty one, and I have a Hello Kitty jewellery box. That's it, though, I think.

And I'm certainly not a girly girl.

SorenLorensen · 05/02/2006 17:51

I deeply mistrust women who have soft toys in their car. What's that about then? I mean, unless it is your child's toy - we have been known to have the odd teddy in ours.

I used to work with a woman (single, no kids) whose car was stuffed with toys. She had one of those bunnies in a hammock suckered to the back passenger window, the back seat was loaded with an assortment of teddies and - most freakily of all - she had a huge teddy (like you would win at a fairground) strapped into the front passenger seat. And...wait for it...when she gave me a lift once she transferred said teddy to the back and strapped it in again.

I don't have issues with Hello Kitty... sorry if i'm being selective

harpsichordcarrier · 05/02/2006 17:55

it's all madness
apart from Miffy
who is fab

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 17:57

don't tell anyone, but i'm wearing miffy socks...

meggmoo · 05/02/2006 17:58

WWW this puzzles me too. My dh's ex was hugely into WP and had him on everything - mugs, clocks, bedding, stuffed toys, clothes.
Weirdo. Took me years to sneak stuff out of the house and onto the rubbish tip.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:00

no wonder he binned her off

mrspitt · 05/02/2006 18:01

Haven't even read the thread but the title just made me PMSL!!!!! [GRIN][GRIN]

Are there any fanatics out there then?

SorenLorensen · 05/02/2006 18:01

Oh Miffy is cool. Not the same thing at all.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:02

got a miffy bag.. please dont hate on me!!

cyan · 05/02/2006 18:02

my aunt is mad for winnie the pooh, she has a glass case at the top of the stairs filled with those awful plush toys that you get from the disney store, there are literally hundreds of them in there. the ones that cost about a fiver and come dressed up. i think she's a tad obsessed with things anyway she also went through a phase of collecting anything to do with bertie bassett, teapots and simply red. just a bit tragic, but other than that shes normal.

as for tattoes of winnie on your tit, let's not even go there.

cyan · 05/02/2006 18:03

what about maisie mouse?

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:03

maisie is ok.. you can't buy as much tat on her though

cyan · 05/02/2006 18:06

yeah maisies quite expensive i think, ds got some slippers which i think are ok. but when he was born a few people bought WTP stuff and as awful as I may sound I couldnt dress him in half of it. Too in your face for my liking. If I pop into woolies and have a mooch in the clothes section never find anything i like, because it's all emblazoned with WTP aaahhh.

is rainbow sad? my friend from uni is obsessed with zippy

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:09

hey, your friend is just retro and crazy.. my ds has a sooty dvd.. it is great

harpsichordcarrier · 05/02/2006 18:11

am glad miffy gets the mn seal of approval
I painted the dd's bedroom with a Miffy mural [proud]
I do like the WTP books, but the Disney stuff makes me want to vom. I can't bear (arf) the ubiquity of it

Smurfgirl · 05/02/2006 18:11

I have tons of cuddlies, loadssss and loadsssss. So hah. Not obssessed, mostly they sit on a shelf...they were all presents. I have tons of bunnies as well because of a stupid joke I had when I was 18 and can't shake off.

Am 21, not single....completely normal actually. Also have a significant jewellery, and shoe collection.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:13

good on you smurf.. we don't dislike cuddlies, just wtp shrines, and the jewels and shoes make up for it anyway

cyan · 05/02/2006 18:13

i did buy ds a fraggle rock dvd and a muppet special feat elton john for chrimbo but i reckon that was more for me.

i did find most of my pals were into things like rainbow, afro ken, magic roundabout, now ive started going there are bloody loads of retro ones

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:14
