How do you stop kids screaming their rotten heads off in garden? (trampoline esp)

Trampoline a big hit, fantastic, kids love it. BUT they seem incapable of jumping without screaming wtf is that all about.

I really worry about bothering the neighbours. Every single time without fail I have to tell them off for the noise. I warn them once, maybe twice depending on how grumpy I am, then that's it, they are off. They all sound the same, so I can't pick out the one guilt person.

Ds2 esp has had a hard time making new friends. Finally he seems to be making headway and I am delighted he's bringing kids round. Then I feel embarrassed they must think I'm a nary old cow, but I'm telling them off and kicking them off.

So, do I just give in or is there some magic cure. I would have thought getting booted off it would have taught them to stfu, but no. So , what to do?

Oh, and they inevitably end up fighting, so I have them either screaming in delight or shouting in anger and beating each other up. Can I just sell 2 of them?

Have the neighbours complained? If not, don't worry about it! Kids will be kids. Let them play.

My neighbours kids are noisy on their trampoline and tbh, I love hearing them having a good time. IMHO, they are too long at school or trapped indoors because it's cold and wet, so let them enjoy being kids whilst they can!

I think more likely you'll have to pay to get someone to take them off your hands :).

?Keep them in between 8am (9am on Sundays) & 7pm (or when it gets dark, whichever earlier). Otherwise kids should be kids, imho.

Agree with Maureen, my dc where very much "indoors" children until we got our trampoline. Next door neighbour is 90 and she loves seeing/hearing tham play. I just warn them not to be too noisy early morning/evenings and then everyone is happy.

it's totally unnecessary IMO.

if my lot are screaming they get told to be quiet or come in!
normal excited shouting and talking and generally kid noise is fine. the screaming for no reason is horrid

I don't try. My neighbour (retired widow) likes hearing the noise and when she has grandchildren around sends them over to join in

I think it's ok if you haven't had specific complaints and it's not late at night or early in the morning.

The DCs who back on to us make a lot of noise on their trampoline-it really doesn't bother me. I think it is very similar to the noise our tolerant neighbours put up with. I like to hear them being outside-it is where DCs should be!

I never let them jump 1 second past 8.

One neighbour complained once last summer (dd who was maybe 2 at the time was screaming cos she hurt herself, and I was there trying to get her off and get her in a 8 o'clock) that did piss me off a bit to be honest, as I was getting them in and I was dealing with it, but it did make me feel uncomfortable.

I don't want to annoy people and try to be considerate, so even if the neighbours don't complain, it bothers me that my kids are being disruptive. Where we live is quite quiet, so I am concerned their noise travels right up and down the street.

I just don't get why they have to scream.

But they do scream. And I tell them off, then haul them in. Every single time. ANd it's still only March and I'm fed up of it already. Not a day goes by. They don't seem to be able to do it. But it must be possible.

And it inevitably results in fighting and then they're screaming at each other instead of for fun, and hitting. Everyone must think they're total animals :(

god we have neighbours , relatively new and their two kids 12yr and 9yr are so bloody loud it drives me nuts
theyy scream and roar with aggression all the time on the trampoline..drives all the neighbours nuts tbh
and they go on for hrs

i don't mind the sounds of children playing but screaming is not necessary

so don't know how to stop yours screaming but agree with what you're doing

Happy playing sounds, shouty playing sounds, fine (my times are 9am-6pm!).

But that weird thing my ds1 likes to do on the trampoline, where every bounce is accompanied by a shout/scream/roar - that gets my goat. So if he does it, his turn on the trampoline ends and one of his siblings gets to go on. I have three and only allow one on at a time so having to give up your go is a fairly effective deterrent. But he just forgets, a lot.

I find a super soaker water pistol can be productive Seriously though our neighbours have said they would rather hear them out in the garden having fun; the other side has the loudest mutant chickens so we're even.

but how do you stop the screaming and fighting without constantly telling off. I feel miserable and they've all been sent to bed! And it's still only MArch! This is going to be going on till October.

I tell mine that they can choose between playing nicely outside, or coming in and doing Times Table Practice . Or Tidying Up.

But Never Never drag them inside for fighting and then let them watch TV for a bit of peace and quiet. Oh no never I wouldn't do that Gives entirely the wrong message.

Mine have been told that if there is too much shouting they will get brought in. And when they shout, they do get brought in. Eventually they will learn. (At least I hope they will!)

We had screaming children next door for a long time and it drove me nuts, so I am possibly a bit oversensitive when it comes to this.

We have screamers next to us.

They drive me up the wall. They never talk they just SCREAM AND SHOUT ALL DAY LONG AND I WANT TO PUT THE HOSEPIPE ON THE LITTLE BUGGERS

I was out in the garden this afternoon and thinking this is actually the only time I can enjoy being outside, when next door's kids are at school. As soon as 3.30 comes round we have to go inside, it really is incessant and HIGH PITCHED SCREECHING.

I was thinking the same thing this afternoon mumblechum - only it was dawning on me that this is what I am letting myself in for in a few years time I can't stand the endless screeching / whining / screaming... Oh dear

I agree, chatting, laughing etc. is fine but there's no need for screeching and screaming. Only let them on it one at a time? Maybe they wouldn't scream if they were on their own?

Maybe have other sanctions than just making them get off, e.g. ban them from it for 2 days, or make them come in and wash up or something. More difficult if they've got friends round though.

My DS has a trampoline and he will often chatter away to himself or make bouncy noises (like saying weeee or BOING out loud) but not at a LOUD level, just a normal voice level.

I personally love the sound of kids playing, what I cannot stand is screamy or shouty children or whiney children. If my DS shouts (very rarely) he gets a telling off and a warning that if he does it again he has to come inside and do something boring.

I can't stand scream shout children either. Problem is, I have 4. Other problem is they all sound the same, so unless I am staring constantly at them I don't know who's done it.

Hense tonight all 4 of them sent to bed. SO I feel bad cos it's surely being unfair. but I speak to the, and haul them off every single day, but nothing ever changes.

ok, I guess my only remaining option is sending them out 1 at a time. But then they hate being alone, so they won't go out.

Tell them that if they scream it means they're in trouble and the police will come. If necessary, rope in friend in fancy dress

Sorry just read your OP properly and would like to clarify that I let mine squeal to their hearts contents when they are playing games like 'crack the egg' and shout to hear each other over the noise of the laughter/springs but they don't actually squeal.

I wouldn't worry about what your DS's friends think. Even if they grumble when you kick them off for screaming, they probably secretly respect you.
