Ciao ragazze, hope you all had a lovely time and haven't eaten as much as I did Xmas Grin

Rosa · 28/12/2012 10:49

Hi all , well I started on prosecco and Orange juice at 8.00 and just made sure my glass was topped up during the day !!! It was an ok day the dds were great and had a good time so thats the most important. Lunch at MIL was ok again nothing WOW - I might do some turkey this sunday if we don't go ice skating with the dds. They are at a play club this morning but I don't think minirosa is over her cold yet so will see. Thankfully the fog has lifted and its a lovely day ..It has been so damp the mountain of washing is scary! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Apparently MOnti is in Venice - he was seen walking in Piazza San Marco....

Hope you all had nice Xmas holidays!! Xmas Smile

P.S: I was awarded the summer placement for an excavation in Germany!! YAY!!! Received the news on Dec. 22nd!

Francagoestohollywood · 30/12/2012 17:21

Happy to hear you had a nice time and well done Merlin!

We are in Cervinia, tons of snow... Shame that I did my back in on the first day on the slopes. Che palle!

Rosa · 30/12/2012 17:45

Cervinia am mega jealous I worked 5 winter seasons there many moons ago... Spent far too many a nightsin the Dragons Den pub if it was still there and there was a restaurant just along from the Hotel Furggen sort of mid piste that had the best raclette ever..then if you were pissed enough you could come down to the village on black bin liners. Also on the red run from Plateau Rosa to the paese the hut oh god I can't remember its name... English sounding did the best chicken sandwiches but it sprobably beeen sold on by now.Sorry about your back ....hope its sunny so you can sit in a deckchair and relax

OP posts:
BananaGio · 31/12/2012 09:38

Well done merlin! How exciting. What exactly will you be doing and how long will it last?
Jealous jealous Franca. Hope you have a lovely time and the back is better. Poor you and your back, you do suffer dont you Sad
And your memories sound fun Rosa. Ah those carefree fun days without dc eh?
Omg i have to say i do not believe there is anyone in the western world that has eaten as much as me this xmas! My particular stand out memory involves laying on bed, with a ghost story book and a box of thorntons toffee (big) and looking at the box 3 hours later to see 4 pieces remaining Shock
What are you doing for NYE? We are doing our usual bah humbug staying in and doing nothing. Hate NYE, love christmas.

Rosa · 31/12/2012 13:07

Gio you and me both . Have had some great New Years in the past but it is so over rated and unless you are with a big group of friends or something I can't even contemplate it ! I don't know of anybody who is going to do a cenone in an hotel or restaurant everybody is doing things in casa. I have made a beef wellington ( hands still stink of mushrooms and onions) and we have a nice bottle of red but thats it. ALso with 200,000 people heading for Rome for the concert I would stay at home as well !
AUguri Happy New Year everybody ....May 2013 be a good one for all of us regulars and popper inners on Little Italy ...SIamo No1!

OP posts:
MerlinScot · 31/12/2012 14:46

Oh NYE is so overrated everywhere... I might remember a couple of them as having had fun... the rest were Meeehhhh.... Me and DH stay home, drinking wine and eating nice food and I'm so happy about it!!
Don't get why Scottish Hogmanay is soooo famous all over the world... Don't fancy to freeze off at minus-something outside only to get ten minutes of fireworks and probably a ton of drunk people trying to vomit all over me... I still can't get why people call that 'fun'......

I like Xmas a lot more too....
Althought I gained a couple of kilos in 5 days!!! Aaahhh... it will take forever to lose them...

Franca, I'm sorry to hear about your back, very unlucky considering you're such in a wonderful place... I don't think I've ever been to Cervinia though but...oh well, I never liked the idea of skying so there was no point to go there during the winter anyway....

Happy New Year to everybody!! Wine

I actually have incredible, wonderful news that should happen in 2013 but just waiting a bit before telling you... (no, I'm not pregnant! LOL).

P.S: Bananagio, the one in Germany is a medieval excavation, it's part of an archeological training scheme for 1st year students... I'll be there for 5 weeks!!

Francagoestohollywood · 01/01/2013 09:41

Hello my dears and happy 2013, lets hope it is a tiny bit more cheerful than 2012... !

Wow Rosa I didn't remember that you also worked in Cervinia, good memories! There are indeed a few Brit tourists, but an overwhelming number of Russian nowadays.

Gio, I have also been eating huge amounts of food for 10 days now, from chocolate to chicken liver pate, lentils and cotechino... Yum!
We also don't do NYE as well, I think that the best ones I have ever had were when I was a child.

Merlin, bellissimo! Envy, your trip will be amazing, I am sure.

Buon Anno xxx

Rosa · 03/01/2013 12:42

Eeeuukk Russiams en masse I recall from Thailand .Hope you have had a wonderful week despite your back ..what a pain. When you get back to Milan hope you manage to get it sorted.
Well New Year is here and I am hosting a befana lunch on Sunday and then we will take all the decs down and thats that. I am planning on possibly doing aqua gym in the new year but must go to the pool and see how much is costs. Also need to see when teaching starts - I hope in 2 weeks as would like a week to get the house back ( and go to the sales Smile ) DD1 has grown and minirosa has shot up and almost missed a year of dd1 stuff!

BananaGio · 05/01/2013 22:17

Happy New Year all. Wanted to see if any one could recommend first reading story books in Italian for ds? I have some English ones on order but want to get some Italian ones for dp to do with him, separate from school stuff. Really simple beginners ones needed. cheers all, off to do stocking before I eat all his chocolate Blush. Hope you are all well and back not caused too much trouble Franca

Rosa · 06/01/2013 07:38

Auguri Befane........ From one Befana to you all!!!!!!

Gio, I went to Dimetra and they have a selection of books in capital letters which is how they seem to teach and we have started with them. One about a ladybird another a dog. Dd seems to cope well with them I have stopped English until she has a good grip on all the letters as I don't want to confuse her. In fact on doing her thank yous she wrote ....FANK U ....Can't complain. Have agreed with her teachers that probably round Easter I will start again as her English will have sunk in,
have family round for lunch have a 2,5kg. Ribs of beef to cook and a house that looks as if a bomb has hit it... vado.

Francagoestohollywood · 07/01/2013 07:46

Buona Befana!

Gio, I have found with mine that after tehy learnt to read in Italian, reading in English followed quite smoothly.

Il Battello a vapore serie bianca is very good for children who are starting to read, Or you can also have a look at EMME edizioni.

My back is ok now, tomorrow I will go to the gym.

Have a goodmweek,x

Rosa · 09/01/2013 12:54

JanuaryBringsTheSnow · 09/01/2013 16:02

Could I stick my nose in here and ask a question...?

I'm currently learning Italian and would really, really like to do a week's language course in Rome. Do any of you know about any of the schools over there? Any recommendations? B and Bs?

Grazie

Rosa · 09/01/2013 16:33

Banana Gio or Sputnik might be able to help...they are in that area....

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 09/01/2013 18:07

Hello January, I am sorry I can't help, because I don't know Rome at all... But if you chane your mind and choose Milan, give me a shout!

Rosa, Fuerteventura is said to be beautiful, but apart from that I am afraid I haven't a clue!

JanuaryBringsTheSnow · 09/01/2013 18:14

Hi Franca,

Don't worry. I've decided on Rome as I have a friend who lives about an hour away, and it'll give us a chance to meet (have only ever spoken to her on Skype, though we've become good friends).

But perhaps I'll go to Milan next. Never been there before. I'll be in touch!

BananaGio · 10/01/2013 08:03

Hi january. Dont know any schools am afraid although can ask around. Re b&bs am guessing will depend on the school you go for as you will want something accessible. I do know a few so if you get back to me when you know re school then i can get a few suggestions for you. sputnik may be able to help re schools.
Thanks for advice re books guys.
Getting the popcorn in for berlusconi vs santoro and travaglio tonight.
You girls are good re gym. I meant to start getting off my lazy backside this week again and have failed miserably.still had remnants of xmas food to polish off is my excuse. Next monday...

Francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2013 14:31

I didn't go to the gym on Tuesday though, as my period transformed me in a lazy, moody cow. I am so fed up with periods!

Gio, I managed to get my hands on a box of Choc+Mint Bendick's... heaven.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/01/2013 14:33

Are you going to watch it Gio? Will you report back? I don't have the guts to watch it, I can't stand both of them. Life is too short, and it feels as if I have already seen a Santoro/Berlusconi a 1.000 times already Sad

Non li sopporto più. I am so worried about these elections.

Rosa · 10/01/2013 17:03

Thing is people hear twat face ( how much make up can he plaster on ? ) saying I am going to abolish Imu and everybody thinks ..Great lets vote for him ..... We just turn the Tv off when he comes on as we both get so irate over anything he says.
I am really doing well just not loosing weight due to teh escess of Befana chocolates in the house. Am doing 4 sets a week of exercise but I have to eat more food even if its fruit and veg as my body needs to boost its metabolism. I just can't be bothered and have a light speedy lunch or have a cup of tea and a digestive
