delivering leaflets

Our local scout group has been approached about delivering some A5 leaflets in exchange for a donation to the scout funds (a charity).

1p per leaflet is being suggested. Does this sound a fair deal i wonder? How long does it take, on average, to deliver leaflets door to door?

We've not done this before so I'm struggling to work out if it's a viable deal for us.

TIA

God, I can't remember but I wish I'd been paid a penny a leaflet when I had to do it as a child!

What I would suggest though is that no scout has more than one street to do - it's bloody tedious and some letterboxes are evil; plus the hidden dangers of random snapping dogs behind them added to the "fun" (can you tell I'm scarred? Wink)

I think 1p a leaflet is probably ok. You can't really quantify it by time because different roads have different length driveways - so if it's a road where all the houses are 2 ft from the street, you'll get it done quicker than if it's a road where they all have long drives.

It depends on where the leaflets are being delivered but I reckon an average of 100 leaflets an hour so I'd say you need to charge more. Plus small boys could easily take longer. Big tip - give each child a wooden spoon to push leaflet through letterbox. It will save their fingers being severed by aggressive letter boxes or bites dogs.
DD does this as a part time job. She charges minimum wage per hour!

That should read bitey dogs!

Good tip on the wooden spoon chopchop where were you 30-odd years ago when I needed that tip?
