When did you stop using spillproof cups?

My boys are two and a half and almost four. I tend to give them spillproof cups but think they should probably have stopped using them by now. The thing is, they like having drinks in the sitting room and I don't want spillages all over my carpet!

Any ideas? What did you do?

The DTs will be 2 in 9 days. I stopped giving them spillproof cups about two or three weeks ago. I only stopped cos I couldn't find one in this whole house. They coped fine and prefer "open" cups.

You could give them water to drink in the sitting room.

Never had 'em.
Straight off boob to regular plastic cup.
Drinks banned in my living room.

Also, what did you do for long car journeys?

Put water in one of those bottles with a sports cap.

Think I will have to just ban the cups! I have been putting it off whilst I battle with potty training but that is almost under control so no more excuses.

I still use them for milk sometimes as we only have a living room so I could hardly ban them from there as he would dehydrate! My son is 2.7. We have used open cups since 6 months too and he is fine with them.

He also has water in his cot and I wouldn't want an open cup there! I can't see the problem myself. I use the avent sportser spouts. He hates juice so its only for water or milk.

The boys do drink from open cups everywhere else - it is just one of those things that happens at home.

We have never really used them and didn't use lidded cups much at all. DD used a Doidy cup from early on and got pretty good with it. She is nearly 4 now and has been drinking from normal beakers, glasses and cups for a well over a year, nearer two.

My charges have drinks at the table in normal cups since they were about 2.

They are now 3 1/2 and nearly 5 and their bedtime drinks (which are the only drinks they have on the sofa) are still in lidded "baby" cups.

My old family kept using anyway up cups (ONLY at night) until the eldest was 9 years old, but he was sleeping on the top bunk and didnt have anywhere "safe" to rest a normal cup!
