ebay sellers question paypal upgrade?

have just sold my first item and buyer paid by credit card to my paypal account. paypal then emailed me to say for credit card payments i need to upgrade to premier account which charges for this service? the buyer also emailed to say any problems with payment please phone me.
having used my paypal account for only buying is this normal procedure?

AFAIK you have to upgrade to receive payments.

And yes, you do have to pay PayPal fees every time you accept a payment. That's why some sellers don't accept PayPal.

I foudn this out the hard way too, I just added 25 p to postage and packing to cover it.
