my childrens school has been closed down for two days due to this virus thing going around..there has a large number of staff and children come down with it so theyre shutting down due to cutting risks of others getting it..
are any of your schools closed too.i live in bromley..what exactly is this virus anyway . i hadnt heard of it before today, what are the symptoms?

Not sure but half of one of the reception classes at DSs school was off with a vomitting bug!

SoupDragon · 01/02/2006 18:48

(I'm in Croydon so not far)

yoyo · 01/02/2006 18:50

It is doing the rounds at ours although no staff as yet. There seem to be two types - one which knocks them for six, lose appetite, headache, etc and the other seems to be D&V. Pity the poor child that gets them both.

Lots of bugs here too!
dd1s class was down to 10 kids last week out of 27!
(Cumbria btw)

Milliways · 01/02/2006 19:40

We have all had this here - both kids schools have had loads off. Headache, general aches, absolutely no energy (& DD was sick). Both kids had a whole week off school - DH is still off!

I'm also in Bromley. dd goes to pre-school at Raglan, and all seemed business as usual today. really hope it doesn't spread to us.

nooka · 01/02/2006 20:56

My school has closed too - are your children at Churchfields in Bromley bambi? Came a bit out of the blue for us - I didn't know there was anything going around, but the children are very happy to be having the extra holiday! Luckily so is our nanny - not sure how I would have coped otherwise!

swedishmum · 01/02/2006 21:12

Not closed but dd had a letter about d and v and flu today, and lots are off in her class. Sick room full apparently. We're near a SE town that rhymes with Trashford.

bambi06 · 02/02/2006 08:40

In DS's reception class the vomiting bug went round a few weeks ago but only seemed mild. DS and DH have had the flu like virus as described by blueteddy. Took DS to doctor's but it was a virus rather than flu so no meds other than calpol. He had a week off school and DH had even longer off work and is now still working from home because the hacking cough he is left with is not a great sales enhancer (that's his job).

Turquoise · 02/02/2006 08:49

Lol at Trashford , we're quite near there and school is down to about 2/5ths attendance, there is the d & v bug, the headachey flu, and also a tremendously chesty cough bug too! My two have had the flu and the chest but so far (fingers crossed-) avoided d & v.

bambi06 · 02/02/2006 21:20

so how long are these virus affecting everyone..is it a 48 hr bug or a week long thing as im wondering about next week now, although they did say they would be open on monday but who knows whether more staff and kids will be hit over the weekend..

nooka · 03/02/2006 20:20

Well I am now informed that it is the novovirus (I think also called the winter vomiting virus), and it is a 48hr type one. I've just sent out information to all the GPs at work (I work for a Primary Care Trust). Funny to do it for something that affects me!

Merlin · 03/02/2006 20:27

I'm in Bournemouth and 3 schools here today have said they have the virus, but have not shut down as yet. Apparently the view here is that the virus is generally present in the community anyway so closing the schools won't really help!!!

bambi06 · 03/02/2006 20:41

well hubby has come down with the flu one, it struck him yesterday out of nowhere and my tummy feels a bit strange so i`m on tea with honey and lemon and an earlier night if i can get off mn though so nooka which classes are your kids in then?

i have had the flu bug since tuesday and it really knocks you off your feet. Only hoovered up stairs and i was done in. My kids have both had the temp for a day then fine, so much going about think the icey cold weather were haveing would kill off all these germs.

tortoiseshell · 03/02/2006 21:03

Hmm, ds has had flu virus for 2 weeks, as have I, dd was sick this evening.

perfumelady · 03/02/2006 21:12
