Every night i'm supposed to pick these little warts full name moluscus contagiosum with an cocktail stick than put betadine on as advised by gp. Have tried everything i can think of but he seems to get a kick out of sqiurming around and screeching. Tonight i smacked his leg then dp held him down. This resulted in hysterical laughter/ crying don't think i can continue with the picking its horrendous for him and me, am i a bitch mum for smacking him? Should i stop doing the treatment? Anyone have an alternative. Thank you.

Leave them alone & they WILL drop off.

Picking them hurts

Plenty of other threads about these on here.

both ours had moluscum which caused them no grief at all - they don;t look great but dds were too young to care. our gp just advised us to leave them alone. takes a while for them to fully clear up but they do eventually

picking them>

WigWamBam · 29/01/2006 20:12

The squirming and screeching is because it hurts - don't smack him for reacting to something that is hurting him.

Leave them alone - they don't need picking and picking them won't make them go away any quicker.

Ds1 had these and we were told by our doctor to leave them. He probably had them for 5-6 months - they didn't bother him at all and went away eventually by themselves.
Picking them with a cocktail stick

FrannyandZooey · 29/01/2006 20:19

Just found this on an NHS site because I was wondering what on earth you were talking about:

"If the child is particularly worried about the lesions then the parent can use a cocktail stick to prick out the centre of the pimple. The stick should be dipped in boiling water first and then allowed to cool. The procedure is uncomfortable and only one in two lesions should be treated at any one time. The parent must be aware of the increased possibility of causing scarring compared to natural resolution. The best option is to: LEAVE THEM ALONE AND ALLOW THEM TO GO AWAY NATURALLY."

Hope this helps, it must have been horrible for you to think you had to do this to your child

i found a cure and posted it here

WigWamBam · 29/01/2006 20:21

Isn't Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream supposed to be good for molloscum?

Has to be better than smacking him then holding him down to stick cocktail sticks in him.

Thank you ladies he doesn't care about the look of them they're on his groin so no one even sees them!!! Feel even worse now it was all for nothing but sooo happy that we don't have to do it anymore. I can't beleive the doctor said to pick them off he even prescirbed the betadine what an idiot.
