I'm in the process of looking for one to do. Can't decide what as yet. The only thing I kind of fancy trying at the moment is a sign language course.

I'm not sure yet. We have just had a spring term programme delivered so I'm going to plough my way through and decide.

I did the introduction to sign language course which was just for fun, no exam and no certificate. I went on and did the first level course and went for the exam. The teacher wasn't deaf and prefered to chat about nose piercings with a couple of the other students, shame i knew more about that than i did about sign language.

Anyway seriously I would recomend doing the sign language but it really helps if you have someone to practice with. Some of the people on my course had a deaf collegue and got to practice a lot. You could get together with some of the other students inbetween classes for extra practice though. The kids programmes that use sign language are good too.

deaf tutors are better as then you have to sign!
You can also attend local deaf clubs if you want to practice.

I started off at night school with BSL and ended up interpreting!

I really struggled at the exam because the teacher hadn't prepared us for the different dialects and I was completly lost with the deaf examiner, half the class had a local deaf examiner and nearly all of them passed it was a real bummer. I am glad I did it though, but it has been so long now I don't think I could have much of a conversation.
