My 4 year old DS and 2yr old DD have nits. Took him and dd to trotters hairdressers yesterday, for dd's first haircut, to be confronted with your son and daughter have nits so we can't cut their hair. Last night i combed through their hair and they were quite a few and this morning we were given a letter from nursery saying they have a night infestation, thanks for telling me now. DS has had nits before but this was after a haircut so his hair was shorter. At the moment it is past his shoulders and he has a major knot problem. I put loads of conditioner on it last night and combed through but he was screaming and was obviously not happy. DD is easier as hair is shoulder length but straight and fine, so combing is easy and whilst watching peppa pig is perfectly happy with the combing. How can i make it easier with DS, what can you do to rid of the nits painlessly and easily.

I use de-tangling spray on DS (he has longish hair too). I start with a wide tooth comb, then a normal one before moving on to the nitty gritty comb. Also, make sure you start at the bottom of the hair, getting those tangles out first, and then gradually work your way up. Good luck :)
