msn messenger - help needed.

Have downloaded an old version of msn messenger so I know its not the dodgy new one and set up a hot mail account but we just can't seem to get it working. What are we doing wrong? We have an apple mac not a PC. Would that make any difference? Have heard rumours that NTL are not good with hotmail. Could that be it? We just can't figure out what we are doing wrong! Help someone! It is really frustrating!

We have tried msn 5 and 7.5 neither seem to work. It downloads completely. Lets me set up a hotmail account. DH can send me an email from his email address and I can send one from my new hotmail email to his email but when I try and use it to 'chat' to friends it won't send or receive any messages! IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS!

Yep, it lets me add contacts but doesn't let me talk to them! Grrrrrr.

Am I being thick!? do they need to be on-line? Doesn't the message just wait for them to be on-line? It comes back saying it was unable to deliver. And I know they were on-line Friday evening because they all said they would be to 'welcome me in' but ... silence! Unless they are all ignoring me! Haven't tried disabling anti virus. Thats a bit scary!

Youve added me but your not online, go to...the little msn icon on your bar down the bottom and look at the bit that says My Status

LOL, remember to sign into it when you switch on your pc or you may never know anyones chatting, usually a window flashed at you at the bottom of your screen
You can set it to sign in automatically too , ticking a box somewhere
