Soldier on with cot, buy junior bed or single bed and rail?

Dont know what to do for the best so thought i'd ask MN for their thoughts and would go with the general concensus!

dd2 is 18 months and a seasoned mountaineer up cot bars and almost out the other side, she is also quite a demolition expert at removing said cot bars and will often make her escape that way, despite the amount of gluing in and hours of fixing by dh.

SO the question is do we soldier on with cot which she will inevitably do her self damage with IMHO, buy a junior bed, or buy a single bed with a safety rail.

several things come to mind, in a cot she is contained 80% of the time (apart from her escaping) in a bed of whatever size she will be freer to roam!
if we go to a cot bed eventually we will have to replace it with a single , so is this a false economy?
is she going to cause more trouble in a bed than in a cot! (probably)

over to you!!

We bought an extendable junior bed from Ikea with guard rails, and dd has been in it with no problems since she was 20 months old. We removed the rails when she was about 2.5, as she had never fallen out and was finding she kept banging her elbows on them.

We worried that she would be free to roam but has never done so. For us, a cotbed felt like a waste of money; we thought that if we were going to have one we should have used it from the start, which is a bit late at 20 months!

DD hated her cot with a passion. We moved her into a toddler bed - space saving reasons - at 18 months and it worked a treat. She loved her big girl's bed. After the first couple of days, and one or two falls out, she didn't wake up/wake us up any more than she did in a cot.

dh has fixed the cot bars again, still dont know what to do, think she may have TOO much freedom to roam from bed if we buy a bed....

All 3 of m kids went into a single bed without guards at 19months, they all only fell out once or twice.

Yes she probably will roam, mine did and still do sometimes, but they know not to come out of their room, they will play for a while then get back into bed when they are ready to sleep.
