I need advice on how to delete my temp internet files. Whenever I access it via My Computer all I am shown in the file is a .dat file which I am unable to open. Can someone tell me how to access them and delete them properly ? I run Windows XP.

Thanks

Try Contol Panel, Internet Options and there's a section under "general" headed "Temporary Internet Files.

This is Win ME, not XP though...

what are the files then????

sounds interesting>>>

or in Internet Explorer (your web browser) go to Tools, Internet Options and there is a Temporary Internet Files Delete option ...

Hmm, hopefully that has done it. Although there is nothing showing in the Recycle bin bit ??? Shouldn't all the deleted stuff appear in there ?

Deleted Cookies and Internet Files will not move to the recycled bin. If you are trying to hide something you had better delete your history too.
1)Right click on Internet Explorer Icon on Desktop
2)Select Properties
3)The box that appears should be on on General Page. Here you can Delete Temp Internet Files and also below that you will see Clear History..

Hope that helps..... do tell all though.

DP has been accessing porn on the pc (don't ask how I found out) and I need to get rid off all traces of it on the pc as it is in our sons bedroom and it would be awful if he could access it (DP is a total computer no-brainer).

Hang, I've just gone back into my Temp Internet Files bit (via Local Settings) and there are still files there, not incriminating ones but there are still temp jpeg files there. Why haven't they disappeared too ?

You have to individually click on them and press delete on your keyboard.
And all the Cookies!

UWC, having accessed Mumsnet (or anything else for that matteR), you will have picked up a few more Temporary Internet Files. Not sure if these are the ones you refer to.
