how much does your child drink in a day?

Only ask because ds seems to drink an excessive amount and consequently wees a lot. (still in nappies) I suppose I'm thinking signs of diabetes but he's drunk loads now for about 6 months (partly as a result of us forcing it upon him to deal with his constipation)and he's perfectly healthy in every other way so I'm thinking if it was diabetes surely he would have been more poorly by now. Do you think it's just become habit?

DD drinks loads, i fill her large cup up at least 8 times a day and then she has milk before bed.

Beabea · 20/01/2006 19:34

Our DD has one large cup and normally drinks half in one day. Plus dairy free milk.

It's blackcurrant no sugar squash he will have other things but he does also turn his nose up at water and apple juice so I am inclined to think it's a habit thing.

My ds will drink over a pint of milk on some days, maybe fruit juice, maybe squash all depending on his mood. I wouldn't say it was excessive.

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 20:25

My ds used to drink on average 8 pints a day, but gradually it has come down to about 4 pints.

bambi06 · 20/01/2006 20:31

both my kids drink at least a litre a day an dmore in hot weather, they`re the only ones i think that take two drinks with them to school

funnyonion · 20/01/2006 20:33

poptot, i was also thinking about this recently....my ds drinks loads, mainly water but since it's been colder he's drinking lots of ,"tea", hot water with mint/lemon grass and honey. I'm pretty sure it's the sweet taste of the honey that he likes!!! By the way he is 20months.

poptot · 20/01/2006 21:12

Thanks for all yuor answers reassuring he's not the only one.

as the mum of ds who didnt drink enough as a toddler and subsequently has an undersized bladder so finds it impossible to stay dry through the night, the more they drink the better!!!

nightowl · 20/01/2006 21:35

dd drinks about 6 cups of juice a day.

MrsSpoon · 20/01/2006 21:36

No more than 14 units.

nightowl · 20/01/2006 21:47

lol!

Hulababy · 20/01/2006 22:04

3yo DD drinks 4 or 5 tumblers of water during the day, and maybe a glass of apple or orange juice as well. I think she has a bit of milk when at nursery too. And she always takes a full tumbler full to bed with her.
