In an old trunk of mine I found some furry dead beetle things among some old clothes. And now I've found some among the clothes that we wear.I never find a live one and usually I find holes in the clothes.
What are they?
Has anyone else found these?
Are they moths at the larvae stage or just furry beetles?Does anyone know?
Don't quite know what to do about it,help.

Do you have a museum with a natural history section, near you? They might be able to identify them for you - or Rentokil, perhaps. Sorry I can't help more.

hestor, we had this problem in our old flat. I think they might be 'woolly bears'!!!!...also known as carpet beetle larvae. I believe they feed on rice, wool and cotton - things that have got starch in them. Unfortunately I can't remember how we got rid of them.

littlerach · 15/11/2003 16:59

Could they be weevils? I remember my mum finding them once. Have to get advice as I think they were really hard to get rid of!!

the carpet beetles link has a picture of wooly bears at the bottom

I know all about carpet beatles! Our bedroom has them even though we have wooden floors, I think they live between the cracks. The beatles are very tiny and dark coloured, with lighter coloured spots. The larvae are brown, longer and hairy. I vacuum regularly but I've never managed to get rid of them, I still find empty larvae cases, and larvae in my clothes drawers. If I leave any material on the floor for a couple of days, there will be at least 4 beatles on it when I pick it up. I'm worried that they are causing the tiny holes I'm noticing in my clothes, or maybe I'm just buying cheap clothes that fall apart?

How come I've spelt Beatles as in the Band? Stupid woman!

Was it because you have had a 'Hard Day's Night', and need 'Help' Rhuby?

I had carpet beetles in my old flat, and did manage to get rid of them. Can spray clothing and round the edges of room with 'DOOM'. Also the solid fykiller in those plastic hanging things (vapona: get it out of the plastic thing, cut it into small bits, (quarter of a sq cm is fine) and put a bit on foil in each of your drawers, hang small flykillers in wardrobe, airing cuboard etc. Vacuum and shake bedding out regularly.
If ever putting down new carpet, sprinkle flea powder on the floor before the carpet or underlay goes down.

Thanks for the replies and the sympathy.
Thanks for the link Jimjams,I'm sure they are carpet beetles now.
I'm going to give your suggestions a go Blu and see if I can get rid of them.

Yeah cheers Blu, I'll try that too. Does it work on Liverpool bands too???
