I think it would be ok as long as you used webmail rather than an Outlook-type mail.

Any account like hotmail or gmail. Using webmail should mean that unless the book file itself is corrupted there shouldn't be a problem with the hijack. I can send you an invite to gmail if you need one.

No real difference except that gmail is much better - masses of free storage and you don't have to check-in in order to keep the account active. Also a really fantastic search faciility.

No better in terms of passing on viruses or anything.

Don't know anything about desktop hijack specifically but a bit about trojans (bitter experience).
