Just saw an ad for one saying 'Find out whose lost weight and whose gained weight'!! Like I give a flying feck!! My sisters, both intelligent women, read them and it is beyond me why. Can't stand 'em!!! Grrrrr, rant over.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 17/01/2006 20:27

I can't afford them and don't read them.

Flossam · 17/01/2006 20:28

Errm, I do like them. Although recognise they are a pile of expensive crap and only buy one or two a month now. Used to buy more. . May buy one tomorrow for the train.

I've never even noticed them. They all look so tacky. I just can't imagine why anyone would want to read them. I'd rather read the paper if I had time to read, or if I wanted girly light relief, a proper women's magazine like Glamour, or Red or something.

tribpot · 17/01/2006 20:40

I would NEVER buy one. I read them at the GP surgery though

My babysitter, who is a hip 21-year-old, was shocked when I said I didn't read Heat. I think that must mean I am cool enough to appear to read celeb mags and be 'current' without actually doing it (Or maybe not)

Whizzz · 17/01/2006 20:48

Saw one on a stand the other day the headline on the front page was something about Sarah Jessica Parker & Madonna having veins on the back of their hands shock horror????? Haven't we all ??????

Mirage · 17/01/2006 22:12

I hate them too & have never bought one.I have no interset in celebs, diets, soaps, ect,so don't waste my money.

Mirage · 17/01/2006 22:12

interest even!

coppertop · 17/01/2006 22:14

I've never bought/read one and probably wouldn't have a clue who most of the people in them are anyway.

MistressMary · 17/01/2006 22:15

Nah they are rubbish.

PiccadillyCircus · 17/01/2006 22:17

I think they are pretty daft really.

But I do plenty of daft things myself, just don't read celebrity magazines.

waterfalls · 17/01/2006 22:19

Oh look so ans has a zit

so ans so has no maku-up on

sos ans so is walking down the street

so f##king what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MistressMary · 17/01/2006 22:20

Then they tell us how to look like celebs?!
Doh!

waterfalls · 17/01/2006 22:25

blimey, my typing is terrible tonight

serenity · 17/01/2006 22:40

boring, boring, boring

So, no you're not the only one!

kleist · 17/01/2006 22:57

I really hate them. I hate all the attitudes they promote - namely slagging off other women for having a centimetre of cellulite on their thigh or daring to wear the same dress twice. Horrible, nasty, bitchy, trash.

Yuck.

HATE THEM.

pumpkin7 · 17/01/2006 23:03

I went through a stage of buying them shortly after having ds2 especially ones with new celeb mums getting back in shape. Dont know why i bothered celeb mums arent normal like the rest of us.

  • We actually look after our babies whereas they just hire nannies to do all the hard work
  • We havent got a personal trainer on call 24hrs
  • Most of us havent got a built in gym
  • We cant just go for nip n tuck when we want to get rid of that excess flabby pouch that is a result of giving birth to our gorgeous children

I would like to see celebs cope without their little luxuries

brimfull · 17/01/2006 23:14

I've never read one.

moondog · 17/01/2006 23:17

I never buy them (as if!!!) but did spot a particularly tasteless headline the other day.
Something along the lines of

'Me and Peter can't get enough of outdoor shagging'

For a brief moment, completely understood why Muslim fundamentalists feel the way the do about 'The West'.

Carmenere · 17/01/2006 23:21

I don't really approve of them for all the previous posters reasons BUT I do like reading them occasionally and have bought one or two if I am going on a flight. But I try to balance my reading with quality publications too.

rarrie · 17/01/2006 23:46

Another vote for boycotting them... I think they encourage us to celebrity worship, all very unhealthy for society, and I've never really got the point of celebs... never recognise them / know who they are anyway, so I think the whole thing is somewhat lost on me!!!

grammaticus · 18/01/2006 18:24

hate them, hate them. only look at the covers now. still remember two next to each other on the stand last year - one was "how i lost 4 stone of baby weight" (i recognised the woman's name and knew that step 1 was - give birth to twins lol), the other was "the celebs who are starving themselves" with a picture of posh spice looking scrawny. all v v unhealthy imo.

noddyholder · 18/01/2006 18:30

I am a big hypocrite where they are concerned as I hate the people in them but can't resist a look The tackier the better too!

iota · 18/01/2006 18:31

I never buy them and don't understand the fascination with them.

Have leafed threough Hello and things like Heat at teh Drs in order to try to understand the attraction, but just can't see it.

I do have a subscription to Good Housekeeping though so maybe I'm not their target audience

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 18:33

They are so ridiculous aren't they, I can't quite see why people read them
I did get one free with something else a few months ago and had a look, it seemed to contain two types of 'stories': carefully PR managed cr*p with glossy pics on how wonderful somebody's life is, and 'stolen' pics with some dodgy interpretation as to what the 'celeb' (vomit) is doing
Both equally repulsive
No idea what the mag was but it managed to be both boring and revolting
