DDS office/feeling low

I have had to go begging at the DSS office today and my pride has
taken a bashing DH has been on ssp for 5 months when he left his
job to do a job that he felt he would be able to do with his knee
injury but the day he was due to start the consultant told him he
couldn't do the job or drive.... Anyway I have claimed Income
support and Incapity benifit, housing benifit and council tax
rebate. My WTC has been removed and the CTC has also be reduced..
The IS and IB hasn't been sorted yet and I have no cash so I went to
the DDS where I had to ask for a crisis loan, They gave the amount I
asked for but I feel so horrible, DH has always worked and we
haven't had to claim state benifits other than CTC. WTC, ICA and DLA
for the kids. We don't intend to stay on benifits but why do I feel
so low about it all?

mieow please dont feel low
you are entitled to it, so claim it
when stuggling through diffulcult times it cant be helped
you are only taking something out of the system that YOU have BOTH put into all these years.

it is a strange feeling claiming benefits. have been on benefits 18months now since dh fell ill. i try to avoid the dss office as much as possible, tho i was also down there the other week getting a crisis loan. i always feel likei need a long shower after going there.

Its full of people like that woman from Wifeswop (you know the one I mean ) There was tons of young people getting their giros and then I saw them all drinking white lighting in the town. And some of them were well of their heads.... sad life

i know. i see them every wednesday in town. the same lot sitting on the benches drinking and smoking. and they look like scum who have no itention of getting a job. once when i had to pick up weekly giros for a while i saw this girl picking up her giros each week, having a go at the staff then going to cash her giros, then walk to the offy next door.
ooooo i'm so nice.

The fact that you feel like this just goes to show that you are not one of those 'wife swap' types, Mieow. As other people have said, you are entitled to have what you have paid for all these years. You are using the support system, not abusing it so there is no reason you should not hold your head up high as usual.

Bozza · 13/11/2003 09:27

Anyway meiow if they had sorted out your benefits properly in the first place you wouldn't be needing a crisis loan. So you really shouldn't feel bad about something they have messed up. Hope they sort things out for you soon.
