I'm using a new name. Feel weird and naughty, like being invisible for the day and watching people when they don't know you're looking.

Sadly, can't think of anything controversial, rude or confessional to say.

Think I'll change back.

CountessDracula · 13/11/2003 00:01

I changed my name cos my old one was boring and this one came up in a conversation with WSM (used to be Wickedstepmother and then FineVintage for a while that WSM did)

lilibet · 13/11/2003 00:14

atlast - wish I'd thought of that, its one of mine and dps songs!!
Bugger!

and yes I know that no one else will know the song - thats cos you're all really young things and I am practically a pensioner!!

jampot · 13/11/2003 00:16

I may change mine to Jimbob. So when I say Goodnight, people will respond "G'night Jimbob"

FalseName · 13/11/2003 13:59

This thread touched a nerve....
I got into a heated discussion on MN. Shortly afterwards people went on a rant and rave about ZsaZsa and dottyparker & anybody else who ever changd nicknames. A few people posted things like 'We all know who the troublemakers are who go around changing their names and being nasty' -- and I couldn't help but wonder if they didn't mean me. I would definitely change my name in the future if wanted to say something that might be controversial. Not least to avoid being branded a serial troublemaker just because I strongly disagree with them.

Now I'm pregnant but not discussing it under my usual MN name. I'm very sensitive & I don't want to share the pregnancy with anybody who hurt my feelings. Or maybe I don't want to be judged, in case someone had already decided I must be a trouble-maker.

Falsename - I don't understand???? So this is your 3rd posting name?

Did anyone come right out and say that you are a trouble maker? I have been called a troublemaker before! It was awful!

But - I don't quite understand you're reasoning. If you just made assunptions that people were talking about you, perhaps they weren't? Its a wee bit extreme is it not. And very sad that you have had to change your name again to tell us this on this thread.

M2T · 13/11/2003 14:26

Oh dear - that post sounds a bit severe, doesn't it! Didn't mean it too, should preview....
I just genuinely didn't understand what you meant.

fio2 · 13/11/2003 14:27

I just think it could be easy to become paranoid here about the name-calling....I personally dont care.

dinosaur I post personal stuff about my sn dd too and my name isnt very anon, maybe I should change it

M2T · 13/11/2003 14:31

Mine is totally obvious! AND I featured in the Express Newspaper then told everyone on MN to look at it coz it was an article about Mumsnet! Not very anonymous at all, it had my name, DH's name, my occupation, my age, my home town etc etc....

Pretty silly really, nevermind.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2003 14:43

I don't have any real problems with the amount of info I give about myself but there are certainly times when I don't want postings to be attributed to SoupDragon and so use a name which is obviously a false one.

zebra · 13/11/2003 14:51

I used to contribute a lot to mkp, UKP, the UK homebirth- and breastfeeding- email lists -- plus two 'expecting' email lists. Often with zebra as part of my posting name. I know there's a lot of cross-over between these communities and probably with MN, too. So honestly, I can never be totally anonymous online with this posting name. I'm mostly an open person, but certain types of things are so personal, I would probably be more sensible if I did post them anonymously.

codswallop · 13/11/2003 16:03

false name - go on who are you?

OP posts:
tigermoth · 13/11/2003 16:53

I often wonder if anyone consistenly and long term posts here under two different names. Entirely possible but that would spook me out.
