Did my last post (on 'can't stop thinkign about sex' thread) trigger this by any chance??

Perhaps people change their names because:

  • husband knows their 'regular' name
  • they know some Mumsnet people 'IRL' (In Real Life)as well as 'virtually'
  • Don't suppose anyone would want to turn up at a Mumsnet meet-up and have everyone say, " oh yes, you're the one who uses their Rampant Rabbit 57 times a night, or has 3 lovers, etc etc ??

Can see from both points of view really as the whole internet thing is meant to be annonymous- however (sorry to use Uknowme as an example) but she did say she is a regular poster and if she has been to meet ups etc she may feel a bit too exposed - also there may be other people on here who know her personally but she doesn't want to tell them about her troubles!

Bit of a pointless post actually but that's my opinion anyway!

JusttoannoyCoddie · 12/11/2003 16:24

Cos we know it annoys you Cods....

This is great, I've never done this before.... should I take this opportunity to confess lots of my dirty secrets??

Nah...

Jemma7 · 12/11/2003 16:32

Stop it - I'm all confused now - Your making my little brain hurt

bobsmum · 12/11/2003 16:32

I have changed my name once in a post which involved legal stuff I wasn't really meant to discuss with anyone. Looking back, it's probably really obvious that it was me to anyone who knows me.

I'm also being cyber-stalked atm too which is a bit eerie. But if I changed my name now then I'd have to start all over again re-introducing myself and perhaps changing details just to confuse things. Will just carry on regardless

vAnnoyed · 12/11/2003 16:54

have just changed mine because my rant is something that makes me instantly recognisable to real life friends (I've been ranting for a while) and I value my anonymity on Mumsnet.

Beccarollo · 12/11/2003 16:55

mine was to add some zings to my posts and people might have recognised me as beccaroll so beccarollo was a cunning disguise

bluebear · 12/11/2003 17:26

I changed my name after about a year of posting because my original name was so obvious and I recognised a couple of posters as people I knew in real life (regretted my raving about how wonderful mumsnet was to all and sundry when I realised my anonymity was gone). Now trying not to be too obviously 'me' in my posts as I don't want to change names again.

Janstar · 12/11/2003 18:02

Yeah, bobsmum, what is cyber-stalking?
