Thought it was time to do this thread-am always thinking of ideas for new 'other subjects'thread as it's my favourite thread.

I have been a mumsnetter for it must be 4 years now and first read about it in I think an observer article.

Heard about the book on Woman's Hour, bought the book, came to the site, been here an hour a day ever since. So must be coming up for 6 months?

codswallop · 11/11/2003 18:47

who remembers grape gate?

Tinker · 11/11/2003 19:28

I did a search for 'Lidl' and found it

batey · 11/11/2003 19:50

I've been here a couple of years-posting, but was here "snooping" for a while before.

Layla, good to hear from you. Favourite threads a hard one. There have been loads of useful ones. I liked the "child of our time" reminiscence one. Do you remember "the horse" one !!

Norma · 11/11/2003 20:03

Was spending too much time on another site and things were always so serious I strayed and came upon you mad lot. Haven't stopped giggling at some of these threads, seriously good therapy.

lilibet · 11/11/2003 20:09

About 18 months I think, but I have spells of just reading. I love it here and have had some fantastic times (saddo!) Favourite threads, hmm, not sure, am loving the Gay Bishops at the momnet so to speak! People are so eloquent! Had loads of support over exh, and people offering to be my fairy Godmother when I couldn't go to the ball, that was truly touching.
Things Kids say has had me laughing the most, best one, can't remember who, was a little boy in his car driving along, he pressed his horn, mum said ' what do you say' and he shouted 'wanker'!
Nearly fell off my chair at that one.
Do like men contributing as well.

lou33 · 11/11/2003 20:16

Hehe Coddy I do!

lucy123 · 11/11/2003 20:21

Been here since preg with dd. So, 18 months -ish? Feels like all my life though.

Angiel · 11/11/2003 20:34

I've been here since January. I visited after it was mentioned by Chinchilla on another site. Tend to use the other site less and less now and feel quite comfortable here. I've been given some great advice on loads of different things.

jampot · 11/11/2003 20:36

I was searching for advice on overprotective parenting about 6 weeks ago and this site came up. I love reading the pregnancy threads as it's such a lovely time in one's life but not for me now. I love the other topics and chat threads.

CnR · 11/11/2003 21:13

I heard about MN via the Raising Kids link. The poster was given a hard time for mentioning Mumsnet if I remember rightly. That was sometime early this year so not that long really I guess.

bran · 11/11/2003 21:23

I first used Mumsnet because there are really good reviews of baby equipment in the buy the best section and I needed to buy stuff in a hurry because I didn't know exactly when we would be getting our adopted daughter. I needn't have rushed by the way, I bought everything in July and we still don't have her. I never meant to get so addicted to the discussion bit, but now that I'm back at work (after actually starting adoption leave and having to stop) I look at it most days. It gives me a feeling that I'm almost a mum and I'll be ready for tantrums, feeding problems etc in the future.

My favourite bits are when everyone gets flouncy and pissed off, it's a bit like a soap opera.

WideWebWitch · 11/11/2003 21:47

lilibet, I think it was Bells' ds who said "wanker", it made me laugh too. I remember grape gate too and lots of other threads that had me fuming at my machine, nearly crying with laughter or wanting to drive half way across the country to hug some poor woman I'd never met but who'd posted for help with her awful day/week/month.

Eowyn · 11/11/2003 22:20

1st read about this in Sunday Times mag i think. Must have been on nearly 2 yrs but too scared to post for ages. Can't imagine surviving without. Wish I'd had access in 1st yr of dd's life, might have made things a lot easier, it is so brilliant that however bad things are there are always people going thru the same or worse, & it puts your own worries in perspective.

Clarinet60 · 11/11/2003 22:24

18 months.
Sunday Times (yes, that rag!)
Loads of favourite threads.

berries · 11/11/2003 22:33

4 years (ish), used to be under another name. Didn't realise you were still around star. Wonder how many others have just chnged their names & carried on.

Chinchilla · 11/11/2003 22:38

I've been here for about 18 months. I remember going to Wales for a few days in the June after I found it, and really missing it. When I got home, I read 5 days' worth of threads in one go...do I qualify for the saddest b***d?? Found the site through ThePrizefinder.com.

Favourite thread is a hard one...it would have to be one of the funny ones, like when we reminisced about things from our childhoods (Spangles!!!)

jasper · 11/11/2003 22:40

Tinker!!

popsycal · 11/11/2003 22:42

spangles!!!!!
what about texan bars!!
can we have another thread where we reminesce"?"
i wasnt here for the last one!

Demented · 11/11/2003 23:02

I've been here about two years and have benefited greatly from the b/feeding threads (thankyou Mears, Tiktok & all). I particularly enjoyed MO2's "How dirty am I thread" and Custardo's class thread when we got down to the real nitty gritty of what metal we have on our taps and whether we have herbs on the windowsill . Mumsnet so often has me laughing out loud!
