Okay. Who is your ISP? For example BT Internet, plus net?

Can you log onto your online version of the email to send mail?

Sky

yes I did do that, but I still just want to be able to use it as I normally do

thanks

Okay, so the problem is on your mail client. Now what is your mail client. Are you using Windows? If so, use the system restore to roll back to when it last worked and see if the problem vanishes.

The problem is probably with your smtp settings. A colleague had this problem, she uses Entourage but a similar process should work with other email apps. Am cutting and pasting from the email I sent her, the source site is there- you'll need to find your smtp port too, should be in some introductory email somewhere. You will need to replace 587 with yours.

Can you check this (it's from macosx.com/forums/mac-os-x-system-mac-software/308182-error-3259-when-trying-send-emails.html with the smtp port number) -- there is another section on that page on how to recreate your mailbox but don't do that first.

  1. Open Entourage
  2. Tools --> Accounts
  3. In "Accounts" window, double click on the account that's giving you issues
  4. Click on "Click here for advanced sending options"
  5. Make sure these are checked: X - Override default SMTP port: (587) Enter in the number your email server gave you. Can't get ahold of your email server? Search for "Outgoing SMTP port". It may take some searching, but you'll find it! X - SMTP server requires authentication X - Use same settings as receiving mail server
  6. Hit "OK" and it magically works!
