HELP! DD2 has just drawn massive circles in biro all through my hall and right in the middle of my newly painted cream sittingroom wall. DH will go spare if he sees it - I am simmering. My fault - left a biro out on kitchen table (doing crossword)and went upstairs to change girl?s bedding. Came down to mayhem.
I have tried, damp sponge (don?t want to remove all the paint). wet wipe - what next? Please someone tell me there is a magic solution...
The walls are painted, no wallpaper, but the paint is not tough paint (stupdily only did kitchen and girl?s room in tough stuff - how I wish I had paid out the extra now!)
Please help me ..

magic sponge ?

LIZS · 14/01/2006 12:24

...like this but several different brands in the supermarket.

Weatherwax · 14/01/2006 12:24

More paint?

XmasPud · 14/01/2006 12:24

where do I buy one? are they a brand or have specific name?
TIA
DD2 just allowed off naughty step (she knew she shouldn?t do it as has crayoned her bedroom before and looked so guilty). She did give me a nice sorry and a big hug, grinning ear to ear. She can be so cute but my God, she has really made a mess this time.

The magic sponge has made the marks on my walls and coffee table fainter but haven't erradicated them totally. Sorry . I look forward to hearing any other suggestions but I havent found a solution yet apart from all the pots of paint I have in my store waiting for the children to be back at school!(School goes back and they both get ill!)

MarsOnLife · 14/01/2006 12:35

have you tried babywipes?

Wonderful things!

MarsOnLife · 14/01/2006 12:36

sorry... I see you've tried that.

Kathlean · 14/01/2006 12:38

Try the soft bread bit of the inside of a fresh loaf of bread.

I have heard about it but not tried it myself.

Or will a pencil eraser work?

spacecadet · 14/01/2006 12:48

try cif with a sponge or mr muscle multi task, failing that, do you have a ny paint yet, so you can touch up?

Janh · 14/01/2006 12:50

That block is made of microfibres - do you have a microfibre cloth? They are incredible at shifting ordinary dirt which is ground-in - want me to biro my own wall and try? (Whole house needs redecorating anyway!)

Research findings for cheap black biro:

Shiny ceiling paint (think it was emulsion but may have been woodwork paint) - cloth shifted the black ink but left the marks

Satin emulsion on lining paper - cloth made no impression at all but I happen to have a Stain Devils No 1 for ballpoint, felt-tip etc and it removed it completely! I think it's intended for fabric but seems brilliant on paint (wouldn't use it on patterned paper).

A kitchen cleaner with bleach in works wonders!!

XmasPud · 14/01/2006 13:41

thankyou - so many suggestions.
I have calmed down a bit.
I tried the bread thing - sounded like it might work but unfortunately not this time. Will remember it though!
JanH - I feel guilty enough about leaving the biro out at all, please don?t draw on your walls and make me feel even more responsible!
I had a phone call from my sister and.....Eureka!

I can officially confirm that hairspray is the answer. A good squirt all over it and gentle rubbing with a damp sponge. Almost all gone. Now just looks like all the other marks around the house ( ignoring the freshly painted bits!) I am still going to Tesco later and will hunt out one of those magic blocks as they sound rather handy to have around. Will also buy big box of chocs for my godsend of a sister who so often finds a solution.

Right - off to give my not so angelic DDs their rather late lunch.
Thanks again
