People who have moved to the country from London

What exactly is so much cheaper about living in the country to justify the massive salary cut you have to take when you move?

Food, clothes, schools etc the same price surely. Plus masses of petrol so that is more. If you are moving to an area where the house prices are not dissimilar to London, I can't see where you make the saving.

No the Shawford house looks pretentious. You would neeed to keep peacocks and that would bring the bird flu risk back into the equation.

CountessDracula · 16/01/2006 12:09

yes and would prob be noisy from M3 and railway

Lonelymum · 16/01/2006 12:10

I hope not at that price!

Mind you, I think you are right about the Headbourne Worthy house. It must be right on the M3 or the A34.

PrincessPeaHead · 16/01/2006 12:11

first one obviously needs a full refurb so you'd need to build that in. but it is on with two agents which means no one is buying it at that price so you have at least 60k or so to drop off the price. which would pay for the refurb.

go onto multimap and have a good look at the aerial photos, see ifyou can spot anything dodgy nearby. then phone up drewett neate (not pearsons) and give the guy a really good quizzing as to why it hasn't sold, he will be pretty straight forward with you especially if you tell him you will chop his nuts off if you come down from london to look at it and it has a pylon in the garden....
or send your mum to look at it first.

CountessDracula · 16/01/2006 12:11

I have looked it is on a main rd which I won't countenance

PrincessPeaHead · 16/01/2006 12:12

nope, wouldn't buy the 6m one either, you need your head examined to buy grade II* or grade I. sorry!

I'm very fussy, you know

CountessDracula · 16/01/2006 12:13

oooh god look at the carpet!

That would need too much spending on it and is nowhere near winchester!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 16/01/2006 12:13

cd your mum is down there, can't you make her your search agent? tell her x beds, nice garden, here is my budget. she will hear about things before they get on the market won't she? and can go and look at things and sift them for you...

PrincessPeaHead · 16/01/2006 12:18

stop the search. I've found cd's dream home. this will get you out of sheen

PrincessPeaHead · 16/01/2006 12:20

savills have nothing between 600k (all horrible) and 1.4.

which leads me to suspect you need to be pretty speedy to find something in that popular middle band...

cd I'd rent, honestly. or hire a property search person.

Anchovy · 16/01/2006 12:22

Because there would be pictures of my childhood bedroom (lots of pictures of Starsky and Hutch on the walls and Jackie annuals poking out from under the bed) and you would all be really mean about it. Although on the plus side, I've always wanted a second opinion on their living room furniture....

PrincessPeaHead · 16/01/2006 12:22

Lonelymum · 16/01/2006 12:52

Sorry, am I missing something? I have just looked in detail at the 11 bedroom house in Shawford and the master en suite bathroom has 2 WCs in it. I have rarely seen the point of 2 basins in one room (although there have been moments when dh would have liked to have brushed his teeth when I was monopolising the basin to put in my contact lenses) but 2 loos in one room? I mean, would you? I wouldn't!

CountessDracula · 16/01/2006 12:57

you have never felt the hankering for a dump a deux then?
