Why do we analyse our children so much??

Have just looked at the toddler's drawing thread (and I'm not criticising because I certainly analysed my DSs to this extent!) but it made me wonder why we look at everything they do so critically. Did our parents do this with our drawings etc when we were at playgroup do you think or is it a more recent phenomenem?

My mam never tires of telling me she LEARNT us all the alphabet before School and we could all write our own names, so i suppose it's always been the way.

(She gets really irritated too when i correct her and say 'taught'!!

Yes, we could read before starting school too. I guess my mum must have learnt us how to
