I think that's right - you are charged if it is less than £50. Didn't used to be the case but it is now.

But if you want your paypal account to accept paypal income from credit cards, then it becomes more complicated. And expensive.

Asked dh and he found this for you (see below) - he says that he's transfered money out of his paypal acc into current acc with no fee being charged - it took three days. He says if your bank charges for reciept of electronic bank transfers then paypal can always give you a cheque - see below. HTH

Withdrawing Funds

How do I withdraw funds from my PayPal account?

You can withdraw funds from your PayPal account by requesting an electronic funds transfer to your local bank account in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. When you withdraw to your bank account, your money should become available within five to seven working days, but may take more time depending on your bank's policies.

You will receive an automatic email acknowledgement every time you request to withdraw funds.

To withdraw funds to your bank account, please follow these directions:

Here's how:

Click the My Account tab.
Click the Withdraw subtab
Click the Transfer funds to your bank account link
Choose the bank account to which you would like to withdraw the funds and enter the amount
Click the Continue button
Review the details of your transaction
Click the Submit button
The funds should appear in your bank account balance in three to four or five to seven working days, depending on the country where you reside and your bank's policies.

To withdraw funds by requesting a cheque, please follow these directions:

Here's how:

Click the My Account tab.
Click the Withdraw subtab
Click the Request a cheque from PayPal link
Enter the requested information on the Withdraw Funds by Cheque page
Click the Continue button

How are my withdrawal fees calculated?

PayPal provides cost-free withdrawals to your local bank account as long as you meet the minimum threshold values defined on the Withdrawal Fee page. If your withdrawal amount is less than the threshold value for your country of residence, there is a small fee to withdraw funds to your local bank account.

Please note that some banks charge their customers a fee for electronic funds transfers. PayPal can make no assurances that you will not be charged by your bank. Please ask your bank whether it charges for electronic fund transfers before you initiate a withdrawal.

I just had a look at the my account and to withdraw amounts under £50 cost 25p to British banks. Paypal will already have taken a charge off when the money is paid into your paypal account from the buyers account.

Just check with your bank of there are any charges they would impose, I think that would only apply if you had a business account.
