She got several "books" on tape for her birthday and so has now told me I no longer need to read to her at bed time, instead I can just put a tape on for her and leave the room . After a day at work it's one of the things I look forward to.

Ahhhh,thats sad.

At least your dd didn't tell you not to sing, like my dd did today.'No don't sing,I don't like your singing mummy'.

the novelty will wear off soon and you will be required again.

My DS got one for Christmas, now he has a story read to him and then a story on tape and now he doesnt sleep well, but kicks up a stink if he doesnt have it.

How old is your DD and what books does she have? DS only has Winnie the pooh so far.

DD is 4. She (used to) love the "hairy maclary/slinky malinki etc" books, winnie the pooh and cinderella/snow white type. Hope it is a phase as I can't wait to do "real" reading with her like "charlotte's web" (ie where we do a chapter or so a night). I can remember my parents doing that with me as a child and I couldn't wait for bedtime the next day for the next instalment.

sad, sure the novelty will wear off

(though right at this minute being replaced by a tape recorder sounds bliss!)
